This very early Big Tag, 7/1972 Ford Falcon XA GT is the perfect car for the guy who wants a genuine GT Hardtop that they can get out and actually drive and enjoy. The car was sold new by Rowell-Thielle Ford in Camperdown, NSW in July 1972. The is tagged as an original 18218 – Falcon XA GT Hardtop with T code 351ci V8 4V engine and L code 4 speed manual transmission in S code Yellow Glow with W code White interior.

The car has come to us from a collector who had a wide range of Aussie muscle cars including a number of high-end street machine show quality cars. This GT is the one that was tidy but not so perfect that he could jump in and drive it anywhere without having to worry about it. The car was given a freshen up by a previous owner around 10 years ago who repainted the car in its original colour scheme. The paintwork on the car could be described as driver quality. While it looks good in general, up close to the car there is minor imperfections throughout and these will likely be difficult to capture in the photos so we want to make sure you are aware of them as a lot of people buy sight unsean. We would recommend viewing the car in person or having someone view it on your behalf, or we are happy to do a walk around video call with you too but it’s still hard to catch the imperfections in the camera/video. The car has all of the GT black outs, front and rear spoiler, driving lights and factory optioned black bonnet. The exterior look is completed with a set of period aftermarket Globe look wheels measuring 15×7” up front and 15×10” in the rear.

Inside the interior is neatly presented in its original white trim. The car has original GT door trims and headliner as well as GT dash and instruments. The seats front and back were re upholstered to factory spec by the previous owner some time ago.  The original GT radio is in place and there is an aftermarket stereo in the glovebox.

While the original matching numbers 351ci V8 block, crank and manifold are included in the sale, the engine bay now houses another 400hp, 351ci V8 engine built using a 351 pillow block paired with the original 4V GT heads. The engine also has an Edelbrock Hi-Performance manifold, crane cam, electronic distributer and 680 quick fuel carburettor. The engine was fully rebuild 40,000kms ago and recent work includes new plugs, leads and coil. The engine is paired to the original GT Top loader 4 speed manual transmission with twin plate clutch. Power is fed to the rear wheels via the original 9 inch differential. Brake and suspension are all original GT items.

The owner tells us that the car has been comfortably driven as far as Bathurst to Perth and back. The fact that the original engine isn’t in the car means that you can drive it anywhere without having to worry about the original engine but it is still there if you wanted to put it back in and return it to factory. The car was recently inspected by ICCARS who have confirmed the authenticity of the car along with the original D block and heads.
