The Ford GT40 is the car that Henry Ford Junior created in conjunction with Carroll Shelby to beat Ferrari at the 24hr of Le Mans. The car you see here is a high-quality recreation of the original. The result of many hours and a huge financial investment to bring it to life. The car began with a space frame chassis and body from Roaring Forties, one of Australia’s leading GT40 recreation companies. Roaring Forties kits are widely renowned and are said to be registrable in all states of Australia.

The car was first purchased in 2005 and built over 6 years, with the car being first registered in 2011. The car began with a space frame chassis and body from Roaring Forties, one of Australia’s leading GT40 recreation companies. Roaring Forties kits are widely renowned and are said to be registrable in all states of Australia with this example being previously licenced in both S.A and QLD.

The body of the car is extremely accurate to the original and manufactured from hand laid glass reinforced plastic (GRP). The door handles and fuel filler cap are exact replicas of the originals. This car has been painted in gloss black for an understated look without any wild race livery. The car sits over a set of replica BRM wheels with centre hub knock offs and a removable front splitter completes the sinister look.

The GT40 is powered by a ‘Boss 290’ 5.4 litre supercharged V8 engine and delivers the power to the rear wheels via a 6 speed Audi manual transaxle with a locker differential. The oil pump has been replaced with a billet pump and currently features an SCT Flashtune programmer. The engine is kept cool thanks to an electronically controlled Thermatic water pump and fans. Gasses are expelled by a crossover ceramic coated exhaust featuring stainless steel mufflers with internal cat converters. The suspension features fully adjustable Koni coil overs all round. Pulling up all that horsepower is a full set of AP Racing disc brakes with 6 spot front callipers and 4 spot rears.

Open the doors, and you will see a very period correct looking cockpit. The holed hollow riveted seats replicate the original units and are manufactured specially for RF GT40s. There are 3-point lap-sash belts on the seats with provisions for race harnesses. The dash is very accurate to the original with a full suite of gauges to keep an eye on the vital signs. An period Mota-Lita steering wheel and boss continue the look. The windows are the correct fixed Perspex type with hatch style openings for ventilation. The gear lever is positioned in the correct location on the right hand side and an extra roll bar has been installed. Keeping things comfortable in the cabin is air conditioning. Importantly, the interior is much roomier than other GT40s we have had, even a driver 6 foot tall and over 100kgs can comfortably drive the car in its current state. Please contact us for driver size reference pictures but don’t rule the car out because you’re worried you might not fit.

The car has been previously engineered by Tonkin Engineers in S.A and has previously been registered in both South Australia and Queensland. Included in the sale is a brand new pair of Willans race harnesses, spare Perspex door windows, front lamp covers, rear cabin glass and the construction manual.
