1966 Chevy Chevelle SS Big Block

HIGHLIGHTS: – Genuine SS Big Block car – Very highly optioned – 396ci V8 engine – 4 speed manual transmission – Power steering – Air conditioning – Bucket seats with headrests and console – Extensive file with original documentation

This 1966 Chevy Chevelle SS big block is a great example of a classic American Muscle car. The car was sold new by Martin Burks Chevrolet in Forest Park, Georgia on the 29th of April, 1966. The people who ordered the car from new weren’t afraid of paying a little extra to get the options they wanted because this would be one of the highest optioned Chevelles out there. Some of the options listed on the build sheet (which is still with the car) included the high spec 325hp 396 V8 engine, Powerglide transmission, Strato bucket seats, head rests, centre console, special instruments, vinyl roof, wood steering wheel, convenience equipment, air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, power windows, power drivers seat, front bumper guards, rear bumper guards, P.B radio, rear speaker, tilt steering, deluxe belts, floor mats, litter bag and red line tyres. The car was truly a burger with the works! On top of the base price of the Chevelle of $2,856.25, there was another $1,458.15 in options added to the car!

The car has come to us from a collector who purchased the Chevelle in 2020 from a gentleman in Melbourne. The car is completely factory looking in its presentation, finished in its original burgundy colour with black vinyl roof. The car sits on a set of Rally wheels with red striped tyres. The engine and is a period correct 66 Chevelle 396ci V8 but not believed to be original to this car. The transmission has been changed from the factory Power glide to a 4 speed manual transmission. The story provided to the current owner is that the car was returned to the dealer in late 66 and the owner asked for the car to be swapped from automatic to manual. This is possible given the engine in the car is correctly coded for a manual transmission 66 Chevelle and the original owner obviously wasn’t afraid to spend a few dollars to get exactly what they wanted but at the end of the day is just a story with no documentation to support this change.

Along with the sale is a host of original documentation that gives the fantastic provenance. The sale includes the original hand book with original protect-o-plate attached, original owners manual, original sales invoice, original title, original loan documents and original window sticker.  This is a fantastic opportunity to purchase an extremely well optioned and well documented big block SS Chevelle.
