This 1971 Ford XY GT replica has been built based on a factory K code, GS falcon that was very well optioned including Golde wind back sunroof and in one of the best factory colour combinations of Electric blue with black interior. The car was originally sold through Carl Roberston Ford right here on the Gold Coast.
The car has been restored and repainted in its original colour of Electric blue but now with GT black outs around the door frames, tail panel, lower sils and bonnet. The front end received a GT grille, spotlights and shaker. An original GT stripe replaces the old GS stripe down the side and GT mirrors finish off the look. The car sits lowered over a set of Globe style wheels with red striped tyres. The interior of the car has been retrimmed in the original style black vinyl with GT dash, steering wheel and centre console. The cabin feels spacious and airy inside thanks to the factory optional Golde wind back sunroof, an option that is hugely desirable in these cars.
Under the bonnet is a non-matching number 351ci 2V Cleveland V8 that has been rebuilt and upgraded. The engine now features a 600CFM Holley carb, mild cam, and electronic ignition. Exhaust gasses flow from a set of aftermarket extractors into a full dual exhaust. Everything is kept cool thanks to a huge alloy radiator with thermo fan. The engine is paired to the factory FMX automatic transmission and power is fed to the rear wheels through a 9” diff with LSD centre.
Nice GT Replicas are always popular and many of those are built on base model 6 cyl cars. This one is a little bit different being built on a car that is super cool in its own right with loads of great options and in a great colour scheme.
