This Aussie delivered, right hand drive, 1985 Ford Bronco has been through a restoration with some awesome upgrades. The car was manufactured in September of 1985 before being sold new by Melford Motors in Melbourne. A letter from Ford confirms that it is one of only 723 Bronco’s sold in in Australia that year. The current owner purchased the vehicle in 2014 as a very clean and original old truck that could do with a little freshen up.

The body of the truck was good with only a couple of small rust repairs required to the fire wall and the sils. The engine came out to perform this work and the body was given a fresh coat of paint in its original two-tone baby blue and white colour scheme. With the body looking all nice, to put the old chrome back on it didn’t seem right so new chrome grill and bumpers were fitted up. The headlights were switched for some crystal look items and some spotlights were mounted up to the front for extra brightness on dark evenings. There is a small set of flares over the wheel arches and a period sun visor up top. The rear end features the standard spare with Bronco trimmed cover as well as towbar, mudflaps, and quad exhaust tips.

The interior is well presented in its original colour of Desert Tan. The original intention of the build was to use it for some camping, so it was set up with amenities for a fridge in the back. The truck is fitted with factory air conditioning which functions well.  On the steering column you will find an Autometer Sport-comp tacho as well as four Cobalt series Autometer gauges under the dash to monitor fuel levels in each of the two tanks, as well as water temp and exhaust gas temp. There is a 12-volt source and digital voltage gauge. In the dash there is an Alpine touch screen head unit hooked up with reverse camera.

The original 5.0L fuel injected engine was removed from the truck before paint and sent off to be fully rebuilt and upgraded in 2017. The engine build involved ditching the fuel injection for an old school carby and stroking the original motor to 347ci. Internally, the engine received new conrods, 9000 series crankshaft, KB series flat top 347 pistons, new bearings, hydraulic roller lifters, Comp Cam, Rollmaster timing chain set, RMP air gap manifold and Quick Fuel Slayer 600cfm carburettor. Spark is provided by an MSD Blaster coil with MSD pro-billet distributer. The engine mounts were also replaced before the engine was put back into the truck. The truck gets a nice rumble thanks to headers and a full custom exhaust.

The engine is paired to a C6 automatic transmission which was removed and given a freshen up with new seals. Other fully reconditioned items include the steering box, brake booster, master cylinder and tail shaft. Two custom aluminium fuel tanks were set up for the truck with twin fill ports behind the same cap. The truck sits on a set of near new BF Goodrich tyres.

When the truck was completed, the owner realised it had turned out too nice to be used for the camping and beach trips he originally intended and never did either during his ownership. These Bronco’s have become quite collectible over the last few years and good examples like this are few and far between.
