1946 Chevy pick up RHD

HIGHLIGHTS: – Ground up hot rod style build – Right hand drive converted – Built 355ci V8 engine – T5 5 speed manual transmission – Mustang II front end – Power steering – Power disc brakes – Air conditioning

This 1946 Chevy pick up was purchased by the current owner from Blue Oval Ranch in Oregon, USA approximately 8 years ago. At the time, it was a good original, one owner truck with only 45,000 miles. He imported the Chevy into Australia as a personal import where it went to Bundaberg Rod & Custom for a hot rod style rebuild with some neat modifications.

Firstly the chassis was fully boxed and K framed with a tail-shaft loop added. The front suspension was converted over to a Mustang II front end with stainless steel upper and lower tubular control arms, new springs and shocks. Disc brakes were also added to the front end along with all new Nolathane bushes. The rear end now features a VS Commodore V8 LSD differential with HQ springs, new shocks and rear sway bar. The rear brakes were upgraded to 11″ Commodore discs. Importantly, the truck was converted over to right hand drive.

With the cab off the chassis, it was time to give the body a once over. The owner tells us there was no rust in the cab at all just some minor panel beating and the cab was repainted in 2K clear over base Jet Black with Rose metal flake two tone. The rear tray and guards, (which were widened 50mm) are all new items from Mark-K in the USA. The bed floor received full white oak treatment with stainless strips with hidden fasteners. The running boards were replaced with new steel. Bringing back the bling is a rechromed grille as well as front and rear bumpers. Other items replaced includes headlights, tail lights, indicators, door handles, new glass, rubbers and the additions of a Fulton sunvisor and hand spotlight. The truck sits pretty over a set of 17” Rev 5 spoke wheels.

The interior has been completely refurbished starting with sound deadening on the floors covered in all new carpets. The bench seat has been custom trimmed in black with red glitter highlights. Full door trims were made up in matching black with red contrasting stitching. The truck has retractable seat belts and has been register as a 3 seater in QLD. The truck now has a RHD dash with alloy insert holding Dolphin gauges. There is a collapsible tilt steering column holding a wood rim wheel front and centre with a microphone shift knob poking up through the cab floor. Creature comforts include a Bluetooth stereo system, power steering, vintage air conditioning.

Under the bonnet now lives a late VS 304ci V8 engine that has been stroked. The build features a 355 Scatt crank, rods, pistons, high energy winged deep sump, high volume Mellings oil pump, Romac Harmonic balancer, Roll Master dual timing chain, Crow push rods, Crane 286 cam, Yella-Terra platinum roller rockers, late model heads, electronic ignition, Torque Master inlet manifold, Holley carby and Aeroflo rocker covers. The exhaust is handled bu Jet hot ceramic coated SS Commodore headers with a custom dual 2.5” exhaust system. Fuel is supplied by a 90 litre Aeroflo alloy drop tank with external Aeroflo fuel pump. The engine is paired to a 5 speed manual T5 transmission with Excedy heavy duty clutch and pressure plate.

The truck is built to comply with LH10 hot rod registration for unrestricted use. It is a new build having travelled less than 1,000 miles since completion.
