1959 was the first year for the Chevy El Camino and has certainly become one of the most desirable American classic cars in the market today. Over the years, many of these cars were used as work horses and abused which means good ones like this are extremely hard to find. The current owner purchased the car in 2012 and it was in good condition all round. Wanting to take it to the next level, he stripped the car apart for a full repaint. He tells us the body was very straight with no rust or bog and only had one previous repair they could find which was completed well. The body was resprayed in gloss black while the chrome was refinished on the front and rear bumpers as well as the stainless trims being straightened and polished. If you know these cars well, you will understand that they don’t reproduce the stainless trim on them. These parts tend to get beat up over years of use and to find one with trim as good as on this car is nearly impossible. There is a set of removable rear wheel spats and the car sits slammed to the ground thanks to air bag suspension. Tucked under the guards is a set of steel wheels with 59 Impala hubcaps and white wall tyres.

Inside the car is relatively true to how it would have left the factory. The factory dashboard and gauge clusters on these cars are iconic 50s styling. The bench seat has been retrimmed in red vinyl and there are some aftermarket gauges mounted under the dash along with the manual valve controls for the air suspension. Visibilty from inside these Elco’s was a huge selling point in their day with big wrap around windows and thin pillars. The inside of the tub has been neatly coated in a black durable lining and there is a spare wheel mounted in the tub with neat cover.

Under the bonnet now lives a 383ci V8 engine that features and Edelbrock intake and Holley four-barrel carb. The cooling system has also been upgraded to include a thermos fan and new overflow bottle. The engine is paired to a Turbo 350 automatic transmission that is column shifted. A custom exhaust gives the Elco a nice rumble with exits out either side in front of the rear wheels. Some other upgrades include a disc brake conversion on the front end with dual master cylinder and the addition of power steering which was fitted in 2014. Nice examples of these 59 El Caminos rarely come up for sale and this one will be sold, being offered at NO RESERVE! Register and bid now or live in regret, the choice is yours.
