1971 Ford XY GT Replica

HIGHLIGHTS: – Four year bare metal restoration – Repainted in Wild Violet – New Saddle interior – Built as GT replica – 351ci Cleveland V8 – C6 Automatic – 9 inch differential – Genuine Globe wheels

This 1971 Ford XY GT Replica has been through a four year, bare metal restoration. The car started life an XY Fairmont 6 cylinder cruise-o-matic finished in Ultra white with Saddle interior. Not exactly the most exciting from the factory but a great base to build an awesome GT replica.

The shell of the car was stripped bare and sand blasted with any rust identified, (which was minimal) cut out with zinc-alum metal mig welded into place. We are told the car was a dry inland car in very good condition, straight and undamaged. Once all of the necessary repairs were completed the car was completely repainted in one of the best XY colours, Wild Violet. The relevant items were also added to turn the car into a GT replica with black outs applied to the bonnet, lower sils, rear panel and window frames. The addition of front and rear spoilers as well as bonnet shaker, GT Grille, spotlights, mirrors and GT stripe. The car sits over a set of original Globe wheels with red striped tyres.

The interior has been retrimmed in its original Saddle colour. During the build the interior received new carpets, new dash, all gauges, door cards, seats and hood lining. The Ford radio has been converted to Bluetooth and there is a security system with GPS tracking and motion alert.

The 6cyl was junked and replaced with a 351ci Cleveland V8 which was professionally built with mild roller cam, hydraulic rollers, alloy heads and 750 Holley carburettor. Spark is provided by an electronic ignition and gasses evacuate through extractors into a new 2.5” dual exhaust system. The engine is coupled to a C6 automatic transmission and power is fed to the rear wheels through a 9 inch differential. Suspension is provided by King Springs who made the front and rear to the correct GT specifications. The underside has been sound proof treated.

The car was actually purchased from the previous owner who restored it by Classics for a Cause and it was raffled off to raise money for charity. The winner of the car is based in New Zealand and has made the decision to sell the car with us rather than export it home. The car has travelled 1,323 miles since completion as shown on the new speedo.

There is a large documentation folder with receipt and manuals pertaining to the build as well as a photo album documenting some of the process.
