LOT 45 – 1978 FORD FALCON T CODE XC HARDTOP

HIGHLIGHTS: – Factory T code XC Hardtop – Fully repainted in original white in 2015 – Rebuilt and upgraded 351ci Cleveland V8 – T56 Magnum six speed manual by Mal Wood – 9” diff with LSD centre and 3.7 gears – Power steering – Believed to be ex-NSW Police car – 14” Hotwire wheels

This 1978 Ford Falcon XC Coupe is believed to have started life with the NSW Police service. It certainly ticks all of the boxes for an ex-highway patrol car being factory Sno white, saddle trim, T code 351ci V8, factory auto, sports handling suspension and dual exhaust. The current owner purchased the car in March of 2013 as street car which he has continued to improve during the course of his ownership.

The car was driven around and enjoyed for the first few years but the factory paintwork had seen better days, so the decision was made to send the car off to Nathan Goodwin at RAR on the Gold Coast who repainted it in 2015. When the XC was stripped back to bare metal, they found some of the previous repairs weren’t the greatest so Nathan addressed these before recoating it in a fresh coat of Sno White. The external look was further enhanced with some rear window louvers and a set of fully refurbished, period correct, 14” Hotwire wheels measuring 8” wide up front and 10” wide in the rear, wrapped in white lettered tyres.

The inside of the car was fully retrimmed at some stage prior to its current ownership. The factory bucket seats and console remain in place but the seats and door cars were covered in a grey vinyl with velour insert that was typical of the late 90s or early 2000s. The trim itself although not factory correct, is very well presented all round. The steering wheel has been swapped out with a Momo item from a similar era and there is an older aftermarket stereo in the dash.

Under the bonnet is a fully rebuilt and upgraded 351ci Cleveland V8 engine that was built by Bill Mann Performance in the early 2000s. The engine features roller rockers, MSD Distributer and Holley 750 cfm carb. The heads have also been reconditioned and modified to be suitable for unleaded fuel. The old automatic transmission is long gone and now in its place lives a much more exciting, Mal Wood T56 Magnum, six speed manual transmission that was fitted to the car in 2017. The 9 inch diff was also given a once over at that time with LSD centre and 3.7 ration gears. The suspension is upgraded with lowered springs and Monroe shocks. The power disc brakes have been rebuilt in 2016 and factory power steering provides a nice driving experience.

Good quality Hardtops are getting thin on the ground these days. This example being a factory T Code 351 V8 and upgraded with a six speed makes for a fun driving car.
