This 1976 Holden LX Torana is a genuine SS Hatchback that has been through a full rotisserie restoration. The car began life in GMH’s Dandenong plant in Victoria where it rolled off the line on the 6th of August, 1976. The car was a genuine SS hatch finished in Papaya with slate/black interior and fitted with a 4.2L V8 engine and Trimatic transmission. The car was then sent to City Motors over in Perth where it was sold new in October of 1976. The car was purchased by the previous owner back in 2016 who spent a few years restoring the car. The current owner purchased the car completed in 2021 and has looked after it and maintained it since.

During the resto, the body was stripped down to a bare shell and place on a rotisserie with Street Image paint and panel in Tweed Head in charge of the build. The car was in exceptionally good shape with the shop noting that it was the best Torana floor pan he has seen without any dents or rust needing attention. The car was completely repainted inside and out as well as the entire floor pan underneath in a factory LX colour of Valencia. The car was also fitted with a full A9X style bodykit including widebody flares, front valance, hood cowl and rear spoiler. Under the back you will find a big alloy drop tank. The car sits a few inches lower than stock and the wider guards are filled with a set of staggered 15” OS Formula Challenger wheels.

Inside the car has also been refinished in a factory style. The floor received all new black carpets including the boot area. The original SS dash and console were retained with a new lid fitted to the console and a new SS steering wheel used. The seats have been retrimmed front and rear in black vinyl. The doors received new door card in black vinyl with golf ball slate inserts. For tunes while cruising there is a Pioneer stereo head unit with Bluetooth and USB inputs.

Lift the bonnet and you will find a nicely detailed engine bay that houses the a 253ci V8 engine. The engine was given a reco during the restoration with new rings, bearings, lifters and timing chain set. It also was upgraded with a mild cam, four barrel 5.0L intake manifold and Edelbrock Carby. Exhaust gasses escape through a set of aftermarket headers and custom dual exhaust system. Things are kept cool with a new aluminium radiator with seven blade clutch fan.

The engine is paired to a M20 four speed manual transmission which has just been reco’d with all new bearings. Included in the sale is a freshly reconditioned Tri-matic gearbox (no shifter or brake pedal) incase someone wanted to put it back to an auto. Power is fed to the rear wheels through a freshly reconditioned Banjo diff with 2.78 ratio and limited slip centre. The suspension has all been restored to factory with lowered King springs all round. Steering remains the standard rack and pinion. The brakes are power assisted with big nut master cylinder and HQ discs up front while the factory drums remain on the rear but were also converted to HQ pattern. The engine bay and underside of the car are all extremely well detailed with lots of items painted to body colour including the full underside of the floor pan.

This is a great opportunity to purchase a fully restored genuine SS hatch back with some tasteful upgrades and in a good colour combination. The car has been inspected by ICAARs for authenticity and comes with a HHS report to confirm its original build specification.
