This 1975 Holden HJ Monaro GTS Sedan has been through one of the most extensive and well executed restoration we have seen to concours show level. The GTS which bears PSN – L308820 was originally built at Holden’s Elizabeth plant in Adelaide with production completed on the 6th of May, 1975. The car sported a 4.2L high compression V8 engine with M20 4 speed manual transmission and was finished in Deauville Blue metallic with Chamois cloth trim combination. The car was sold new by United Motors Limited in Adelaide during June of 1975.

The car was purchased by the current owner in complete but run down, original condition in 2020. The right bones were there with the original matching numbers driveline in place and all the ingredients for a good restoration. The restoration was completed by Echuca Service Centre from start to finish. The car was completely stripped to nothing with every nut and bolt removed before being blasted and place on a rotisserie. The body then received any necessary repairs before being completely repainted in its original colour with GTS black outs. Every item placed back onto the body of the car including the chrome bumpers, grille, badges and any bolts were all refinished or replaced with the only exceptions being the tail lights and glass. Likewise all of the rubber and weather stripping are new. The original date coded wheels were restored and refitted to the car along with a set of red striped tyres.

Inside the interior has received the exact same treatment with every item restored or replaced. Great lengths were taken to source the correct Antique Gold cloth insert for the Chamois trim. The interior was tasked to Warren smith who made it all look like new from headliner to carpets.

Under the bonnet is the matching numbers 4.2L V8 engine which has been fully rebuilt to factory specifications. The engine bay is highly detailed in a concours fashion with paint dabs, correct decals, clamps and fittings used. The engine is paired to the original M20 four-speed manual transmission which has also been rebuilt. The same detail in the engine bay extends all the way underneath the car with one of the cleanest and most highly detailed under carriages we have seen. The Diff is the original item reconditioned and the brakes and suspension have all been completely replaced with new items to factory specs.

The car has just been completed prior to being sent up to us to auction. The car comes with a Holden Historical Report to confirm its original specification and numbers. There is also the old South Australian number plate with the car that it wore prior to the restoration. If you are in the market for a HJ GTS sedan and or even just a high quality restored collector car, this is one to watch.

We do everything we can to qualify the best cars in the Australian market to represent on consignment for private sellers however, they are still old cars and we can’t capture everything in the photos, we don’t drive them any significant distance and can’t know everything about them. It is the responsibility of the buyer to have thoroughly inspected the vehicle, and to have satisfied themselves as to the condition and value and to purchase based upon that judgement solely. Vehicles may have been sitting for some time and it is suggested that to protect your investment, you allow to change fuel, oil, fluids, filters and inspect brakes prior to use.
