1974 Dodge Challenger Restomod

This 1974 Dodge Challenger went through a full ground up custom build in 2017. The idea was to create a pro-touring style custom with classic looks but modern performance, features and reliability.

On the outside, the car was stripped and repainted in a Cherry Cola Metallic. The body of the car was left factory with the exception of some power operated later model side mirrors with integrated indicators. The car presents very well but there are a couple of chips and fine scratches you may not pick up in the pictures so feel free to reach out and ask for more detail or even better, drop in and see it in person. The car has an aggressive stance and is sitting over a set of chrome American Racing Rambler wheels measuring 18×8” up front and 20×9” in the rear with 305 tyres.

Open the door and you will find a full custom interior from top to bottom. The first thing you will notice is that the car has been converted to right hand drive. The dash is a full custom set up with a host of digital gauges. There is a ‘Vintage Air’ air conditioning system with modern style vents integrated into the dash and in the rear. There is a full-length centre console that flows the whole way through the middle of the car and splits the rear seat into two custom wrap around bucket. There is a big stereo system with touch screen infortainment system mounted in the dash, reverse camera, speakers all round and amplifiers in the boot. The windows are all power operated and the steering column is tilt adjustable. The boot of the car has been panelled out and trimmed to match the interior.

Pop the bonnet and you will find a late model, Gen 3 5.7L Hemi V8 engine. The engine was fully rebuilt during the build and made 305 rwhp on the chassis dyno. Gasses are expelled through a 3” custom exhaust system and the cooling has been upgrade with a late model radiator and thermos fans. The engine is paired to the same factory 5 speed automatic transmission that it would have come with from the factory.  There is a custom two-piece drive shaft that feed power to a Heidts independent rear end with 9 inch diff centre and inboard disc brakes. The front end also features disc brakes but is now set up with rack and pinion power steering. There are A1 Chassis connectors that join front to back for added stiffness and strength. There is a large alloy drop tank under the back to supply fuel with R/T style filler.

The Restomod movement has certainly gained a big following over the last few years and you can see why. To have the looks of a classic combined with modern performance, features and reliability is certainly a great combination.
