This 1973 Ford Falcon XA Superbird is a fully restored example of a rare Aussie muscle car. The Superbird was a limited edition run of the popular Falcon Hardtop with only 750 units produced. The cars were built over a number of months in early 1973 however all vins were issued in March of 1973. The cars were available in only three different colour combinations, Polar white with Cosmic Blue, Yellow Fire with Walnut Glow or as in this case, Lime Glaze with Jewell Green. All cars were powered by a Y code 302ci V8 engine and could be with either a manual or automatic transmission.
This particular example was purchased by the current owner back in 2005 before undergoing an extensive restoration in 2016. The car was completely stripped back to a bare shell and then back to bare metal. The car received any necessary repairs with every panel that was able to be removed from the car taken off and refinished. The car was then professionally repainted in its original colour of Lime Glaze with Jewell Green accents applied. Careful detail was taken to ensure the stripes and decals were replaced in the same locations as factory. The chrome and trim was all either refinished or replaced at the same time. The car sits lowered over a set of 15” Simmons mesh style wheels with gold centres.
Inside the car has also been refinished with an all new white interior back to factory specs by Mick Lanham Auto Upholstery in Widgee QLD. The front bucket seats wear the correct weave style factory 500 trim and are split by the centre console. The original style steering wheel, T-bar shifter and dash remain in place. For tunes while cruising these is a Bluetooth capable Alpine head unit.
Lift the bonnet and you will find a nicely presented engine bay housing the original matching numbers 302ci V8 engine. The engine was rebuilt by Barry McLean and features some mild upgrades including a mild cam, intake manifold and 600cfm Holley carburettor. The engine is paired to the factory C4 automatic transmission and power is fed to the rear wheels through the factory diff. The brakes are fully rebuilt factory items and the car sits on lowered suspension.
These XA Superbird Hardtops and rare and desirable Aussie muscle cars. This one has been through an extensive restoration over a number of years with hundreds of pictures available to show the build, a small selection of which we have added here. These cars don’t become available for sale very often and this is about as good as they come. Be sure to register and bid if you want to see this one parked in your garage.
