This 1971 Ford XY started life as a factory V8, Y code Fairmont that has been fully rebuilt into a GT replica.
Externally the car is well presented having been repainted in one of the most popular XY colours of Vermillion Fire. The car has all of the usual GT appointments including Shaker hood, black outs, Gt side stripe, mirrors, badges, driving lights, grille and front and rear spoilers. The chrome and trim externally appears to have all been refinished or replaced. The car contains one of the most desirable options you could get on an XY with a wind back sunroof providing an open and airy feel inside. The look is completed with a set of 15” Bathurst Globe wheels (incl. spare) with red striped tyres.
Inside the car is neatly trimmed in the factory GT style using black basket weave pattern. The car has a GT style dash, steering wheel and centre console along with the GT badge on the glovebox lid. Inside the boot is presented like factory with a new rubber mat covering with 36 gallon big tank and a Bathurst Globe spare wheel.
Under the bonnet is a 408ci Cleveland V8 stroker that has been dressed to look original. The engine features 4V heads, Offenhauser dual port intake, MSD ignition system and Holley Carburettor. Exhaust gasses escape through pacemaker headers into a dual 3” exhaust with 2.5” tips. The engine is paired to a four-speed Top Loader manual transmission and power is fed to the rear wheels through ford 9 inch diff with 3.25 gears. The brakes have been upgraded to include discs all round. Looking under the car you can see delivery markings applied to various components. The undercarriage also shows evidence of patch repairs in the usual places an XY would require them 50 years down the track. The engine bay is very well detailed, again with delivery marking added throughout and attention paid to make everything look as correct as possible.
These XY GT Replicas are always extremely popular when we get them in the showroom and this one has been finished in one of the most popular colour schemes, includes the wind back sunroof and a tough driveline. A tidy XY to buy for the guy who wants to get out and bang through some gears rather than admire it locked away in a shed.
