1970 Plymouth Cuda AAR six-pack

This is a fantastic example of a nicely restored and matching numbers, 1970 Plymouth AAR Cuda. The AAR Cuda was a limited production model built only in 1970 and were required to homologate the cars in order to compete in the SCAA Trans Am racing series. A total of 2724 were produced – 1120 were 4-speed and 1604 were automatics. All AARs had a high performance, 340 6-barrel engine along with unique graphics and styling. The stripe down each side was called a strobe stripe, which highlighted the AAR Cuda badge at the rear of the car. There was a rear duck tail spoiler, side exit exhaust and a low sheen finish hood with functional fiberglass hood scoop. Today, the AAR Cudas are among some of the most collectible muscle cars in existence.

This particular car was purchased out of the USA by the current owner who is an avid collector. The car was freshly restored back to factory specifications. The car is said to have been restored from an original, rust-free example that had been in storage since 1986 and only travelled 54,000 miles from new. The body presents very well, being stripped to a bare shell before it was repainted in its factory colour of EB5 Blue. The strobe stripe has been replaced and the original chrome and trim were refinished and re-fitted. The engine bay, underbody and boot are all nicely detailed in original presentation. The antenna on the rear guard is correct and AAR specific. The car sits over the original Rally wheels with correct type Goodyear Polyglass tyres. The AAR cars were some of the first muscle cars to feature an offset tyre size with bigger tyres in the rear giving it a raked stance.

Inside the car was treated to a new interior kit which included carpets, seat covers and door trims back to factory specs. There is no power steering but a quick ratio steering box and power brakes with discs up front and drums on the rear as standard.

Under the bonnet is the rebuilt original 340 ci V8 engine with 6-pack carbs. These Cudas have a factory lumpy idle, and sound angry with their factory side exit exhaust which again, are AAR specific. The transmission is a 727 Torqueflite automatic which has been fully rebuilt. The differential is the standard 3.55 ratio Sure Grip rear end.

These AAR Cudas are rare and hugely collectible muscle cars that represent a fantastic blue chip style investment. This would be one of only a handful of examples in Australia and rarely would the opportunity arise to purchase a car like this. Register and bid now or live with the regret, the choice is yours.
