This 1969 Ford Mach 1 Mustang is a neat example of an iconic American muscle car. The car began life at the San Jose plant in California and rolled off the production line 11 days behind schedule on the 6th of January, 1969. According to the trim tag and Marti report, the car was a genuine Mach 1 finished in Candy Apple Red with blackout hood and Black Clarion Knit interior. The car was fitted with a 351ci Windsor 2V V8 engine and FMX automatic transmission and optioned with power steering and power front disc brakes.
The was has been in Australia for the best part of 20 years now in a number of long term ownerships. The car remains true to its original specification and has been professionally repainted in its original colour of Candy Apple Red. The black out bonnet, bonnet pins and factory hood scoop remain in place up front. The scoops on the rear guards were unique to the 69 model and one of the best features on these cars. The car sits over a set of 15” Magnum 500 wheels wrapped in white lettered Mickey Thompson sportsman tyres.
Inside the interior has been retrimmed in the factory Black vinyl. The factory high back bucket seats remain in place up front with factory timber applique on the dash and doors and console in good condition. There is an aftermarket wood rimmed steering wheel front and centre and the T-bar automatic shifter pokes out of the console that splits the front seats. The factory Mach 1 floor pads which can sometimes be overbearing have been recoloured to black. Updated seatbelts have been fitted all round for safety.
Lift the bonnet and you will find the original, matching numbers, 351ci Windsor V8 engine. Cooling is improved thanks to a new aluminium radiator with twin electric thermo fans up front. Exhaust gasses escape through a set of aftermarket headers into a custom dual exhaust with Magnaflow mufflers. The engine is paired to the original Ford FMX ‘Cruise-O-matic’ automatic transmission. Power is fed to the rear wheels through a nine inch diff. The car has been factory optioned with power steering and power assisted brakes with discs up front and drums in the rear.
These 1969 Mach 1 Mustangs are one of the most muscular Mustangs built and highly desired by collectors and enthusiasts. This is a genuine Mach 1 with matching numbers engine, some good options and in a fantastic colour combination.
