1968 HOLDEN HK MONARO
This is a great example of a tough built 1968 Holden HK Monaro GTS tribute. We sold this car at auction earlier this year where it was purchased by the boys at Classics for a Cause who raffled the car for charity. The gent who ended up winning the raffle loved the car but is a grey nomad and keeping the car just wasn’t a realistic option for him. Luckily for everyone else, he has decided to put the car to auction which means you now have a second chance at owning this beauty.
The car was purchased by the previous owner 15 years ago as a bare shell. He went through the pain staking process of completely rebuilding the car into the tough GTS tribute you see here. Neatly presented in metallic silver with black trim, the car has the look that most guys are chasing. The body on the car is of a high quality as is the paintwork. The interior has been refinished in black to the original style. There is a quick shifter between the seats and a Monster tacho with shift light mounted to the steering column.
The engine is a warm 383ci V8 stroker with AFR heads and a few go-fast goodies built by Widow Maker Race Engines in 2018. The engine makes approximately 500hp at the flywheel. The engine bay is neatly detailed throughout with colour coded firewall, inner guards, and brake booster. The engine is paired to a Hughes built Turbo 350 Automatic with a B&M ratchet shifter and 3000 rpm stall converter. Under the back end is a built 9” differential with Truetrac centre and 3.5 diff gears. The car barks to life when you hit the key thanks to a set of extractors that flow into a full custom twin exhaust.
The brakes have been upgraded to an electric brake booster and are WB Holden discs on the front and VR Commodore discs on the rear. The suspension has been lowered with a set of Caltracs to help the rear end hook up. Other upgrades include electric water pump, electric fuel pump and thermo fans to keep it cool. The car sits over a set of original Convo Pro 15” wheels with little 5” wide up front with 8.5” in the rear with red striped tyres. The car has only travelled approximately 3500 miles since completion. A fun and tough Monaro for someone to get out and enjoy.
