1968 Ford Mustang Convertible RHD

This 1968 Ford Mustang convertible has undergone a complete nut and bolt rotisserie restoration and modifications by the world renowned ‘Classic Speed’. If you know Classic Speed, they are a company set up by an Australian owner but based in the Philippines, who specialise in restoring and building to order, high end classic cars, most commonly, Mustangs. Each of their builds is bespoke and numbered and plated, this car being build number 218.

The Mustang was stripped back to nothing but a shell and media blasted to bare metal before replacing any damaged or fatigued sheet metal and painted in its period correct Silver Blue (Dupont) with white Le Mans stripes. The paint and bodywork that Classic Speed produce is of a high level. The chrome was all refinished or replaced during the restoration and the car sits on a set of all new 17” American Racing Magnum style wheels with new tyres. Importantly, because this car was being built for an Australian client, the car was converted to right hand drive during the build process.
Inside, the car received new blue and white upholstery with matching dash and interior panels. It has also been fitted with a new power operated white soft top. To make cruising more comfortable, a Hurricane air conditioning unit has been fitted. The hurricane system is a complete system that replaces the original heater box and adds a modern high efficiency AC and heater/defroster. The original dash has a full set of Auto Meter Pro-Comp Ultra-lite gauges and a wooden rim Moto-Lita steering wheel sits on the end of a chrome tilt steering column. Power steering provides a nice easy drive. There is also a big stereo sound system with Bluetooth CD/USB head unit, front and rear speakers and a very neat install in the boot holding two amplifiers and two 12” subwoofers while still retaining the majority of the boost space.

The engine is the original 302 V8 engine that has been fully rebuilt and designed to run on unleaded petrol. New pistons, hydraulic camshaft and a double row timing chain have been fitted. A fully rotating balance has also been completed. The cylinder heads are Procomp CNC Aluminum units. It has a four barrel Performer manifold matched up to a Holley 600CFM DP carburetor and a Procomp Electronics billet distributor and CDI. A new 100 AMP alternator ensures the optima battery is fully charged. Tri Y headers are connected to a new 2 ¼” performance exhaust system. The engine is paired to a fully rebuilt C4 automatic transmission with a T-bar floor shift. Sending power to the rear wheels is a fully rebuilt original Ford 8” rear axle with a 2.7 ratio crown wheel and pinion. Brakes are power assisted 4 wheel disc brakes by Wilwood. Suspension features Koni shockers all around with new HI PO coil springs and new lowered leaf springs by Scott Drake along with front and rear sway bars. Other notable additional Item include a Procomp Cross flow Aluminium radiator, Halogen head lights, Export Brace and Monte Carlo Bar.

The restoration of this car was completed in approximately 2010 and while very well looked after, has been used and driven covering approximately 20,000kms since completion. The car still remains in fantastic condition but does show some very minor signs of wear/age from normal road use as shown in the pictures. This Mustang convertible could possibly be the ultimate classic cruiser. It has been through an extensive restoration, right hand drive converted and upgraded with modern components to make for a better experience than it ever would have been from the factory.
