This 1966 Ford Mustang has been through a ground up, nut and bolt custom build into a one-off show piece, completed in 2015.

Starting with the body, everything was subtly massaged and tucked to give a smoother appearance without spoiling the classic lines. The sills were lowered 2” to give lower stance without losing suspension travel. The front and rear eyebrow extensions are smoothed with front and rear bumpers cut, tucked, and recessed into the body. The roof gutters have been shaved along with the wiper cowl vents. The bonnet has been lengthened and lowered with custom fabricated engine bay, firewall and inner guards. The side quarter moulds have also been smoothed, with custom chrome trims made. With the body work complete, the whole car was then covered in DeBeers three-layer Lamborghini Orange Pearl. All of the glass and stainless trim was replaced at the same time. Finishing things off up front is a billet grille.

Inside the interior is all custom with a custom painted metal dash and custom centre console housing the ratchet shifter. The seats and door trims are again custom and finished in genuine leather. There is a ‘Vintage Air’ air conditioning system with neat billet switches and dials. The gauges are all Autometer items and there is an aftermarket stereo system neatly integrated. Pop the trunk and it has a smoothed fit out with custom fuel cell.

In the engine bay is a GU Motors built, fully prepared and blueprinted 347ci stroker v8 engine making 428hp. The engine started with a Dart block and was filled with a Seat forged crank, Set H-Beam rods, SPR Pistons, Total Seals rings, Pavtec mains stud girdle, Clevite bearings, Ford Racing GT40 alloy heads, Billet Specialty rocker covers and breathers, Ford Racing M-6250-F303 roller cam, Ford Racing rockers, Rollmaster timing chain, March serpentine belt kit, MSD distributor, MSD leads, Bosch coil, Motec M48, DC&O Manifold, eight throttle bodies, Melling oil pump and B&M oil cooler. Keeping everything cool is an Edelbrock water pump and twin Aeroflow thermo fans on a PWR radiator. The engine is set up to run on premium unleaded. Gasses are expelled by custom tuned length and ceramic coated 4 into 1 headers into a custom 2.5” exhaust with Hooker mufflers.

The engine is paired to a Ford C4 automatic transmission with 2800 rpm stall converter, billet servos and stage two shift kit. The power is fed to the rear wheels via a custom 3” drive shaft into a Truetrac 9” differential with 3.55 gears and 35 spline axles. The front suspension has been upgraded to a Rod Tech stainless front end with coil overs while the rear is a McDonald Bro’s stainless four bar with king springs and QA1 shocks. The brakes have been upgraded to Willwood discs on all four corners. Underneath the car is as nicely detailed as the top. The car sits on a set of Intro Billet Retro wheels measuring 18×7” up front and 20×10” on the rear.

The car has won many awards at shows since its completion including being a Meguiars Super Stars finalist along with QLD hot rod show top 10 and was featured on the front cover of issue 158 of Street Fords Magazine. The has been occasionally carefully driven since completion and has been engineered and previously registered in QLD.
