The 1963 Corvette is one of the most iconic classic cars ever produce and is considered by many, to be one of the most beautiful cars of all time. 1963 was the first year for the Stingray name plate on a Corvette and the first year the car was offered as a hard top coupe. The long bonnet, pop up headlights and swooping rear end were all key design features but nothing would prove to be more iconic than the split rear window which only featured for one year’s production. Only 10,594 Split window Coupes (SWC) were produced in total with many of these lost and destroyed over the years. Today, a 63 Corvette SWC is a bucket list classic car for many enthusiasts and extremely desirable among collectors.
This 1963 Corvette was delivered from the factory in Red but has since been repainted in arguable the most desirable factory colour, Sebring Silver. The original fiberglass body of the car is in very good shape and the car has been repainted professionally and to a high standard. The chrome on the outside of the car including front and rear bumpers and door handles have all been refinished. The stainless windscreen trim and faux bonnet vents that are unique to this year remain in place. The car sits on the correct original style steel wheels with original 63, 13 piece hubcaps.
Inside the car is refinished in its factory red colour and provides the perfect contrast to the exterior. The carpets and seat covers were recently replaced with the dash and door trims remaining as original items in good condition. The one year only gauges are the correct stainless cone type with correct bent needles. Likewise, the glovebox lid is the correct 63 item. The bucket seats are split by the original console with four-speed floor shifter.
Under the bonnet lives the matching numbers, 327ci V8 engine. This was the only capacity engine available for the 1963 year model. The engine is paired to a four-speed manual transmission which was the most popular choice for that year. Power is fed to the rear wheels through the factory differential and the brakes and suspension are reconditioned factory items.
These split window Corvettes are iconic American classics that are universally admired and appreciated and this one is neatly restored in the hero colour combination with its matching numbers engine. The car was recently entered in the 2023 Corvette Nationals where it was awarded Best Original C2. Rarely do these cars become available in the market and the time to buy one is when it presents itself.
