This 1962 Pontiac Laurentian has been through a full ground up custom build into the street machine you see here today. The car was a father and son project by the current owner who purchased it with the intent of making a tidy mild custom but those plans quickly spiraled into a full custom build. The car was built by Real Steel in Queanbeyan with every single part of the car being modified in some way.

Starting with the chassis, it was strengthened and modified to kick up at the rear. The front end was updated with new a new tubular A-arm setup grafted into the contoured rails including rack and pinion power steering. A fabricated four link was added to the rear end and mounted four inches higher than stock to keep it nice and low. Shockwave airbags were used all round with Accuair E-level air management allowing present ride heights and self-leveling.

Under the bonnet is a 376ci LSX V8 crate engine with a Harrop HTV1900 Supercharger sitting proudly on top. The engine itself features forged internals, six bolt LSX heads, 9.1:1 compression ratio and is said to be capable of 15lbs of boost. There is a PWR water-to-air intercooler and a Real Steel crank support. The current tune is quite conservative (only 4psi of boost), but the combo can be wound up to over 650hp. The engine bay is incredibly well presented with custom made intake, inner panels and covers all round. The engine has custom made polished rocker covers and the Harrop blower is polished to match. The engine is paired to a Tremec 6 speed manual transmission and power is fed to the rear wheels through a beefed up 9” diff. Brakes were upgraded to be power assisted with AP Racing discs on all four wheels.

The body of the car itself has been subtly massaged and modified for a smooth, sleek look. Some of the modifications included cutting, shaving, modifying and tucking the bumpers front and rear, extending the sheet metal around the front and rear windows to create flush mounted glass, extending the sils, bottom of the front guards and quarter panels to neatly roll under the car. You will notice the door gaps are far better than factory and there is hidden fasteners used where ever possible. The side trim is a custom CNC machined item and patterned to match the 20” Billet Specialties wheels. The headlights are upgraded and tail lights converted to custom LED’s. The exhaust exit is flush mounted to the bodywork on either side behind the rear wheels  The entire car was professionally painted in House of Kolor Black which contrasts perfectly to the chrome highlights.

Inside, the car received a full custom interior trimmed in red leather. The dash and console are modern items from a VY HSV Clubsport that were carefully grafted in. The factory air conditioning controls were hooked up to work with the new AC system as well as the power window switches in the console. The front seats are VY Clubsport items modified and the rear features split seating with custom centre console that flows all the way up to the parcel shelf. The door trims are full custom items and the boot is neatly decked out and trimmed to match the interior with a big embossed Pontiac logo in the floor. There is an integrated infotainment unit with screens in the front and rear. The level of detail across the whole interior is hugely impressive.

The car was unveiled at Summernats 29 where it was awarded Elite top 10 and top exhibition. The car was also featured in Street Machine magazine in June of 2016.
