This 1962 Holden EK Ute is an iconic Aussie classic with a cool history that has been through a full nut and bolt, rotisserie restoration. According to the tags, the EK was built in Melbourne before being sent to Kent’s Motors in Narrandera, NSW to be sold new. The original owner was Mr James Clare who was a sheep and wheat farmer in Sandigo, NSW. James or “Jimmy” as he was known, used the ute around his farm and to run around town right up until he retired and sold the farm. This is when his neighbour and the ute’s second owner, Arthur, purchased the ute at the clearing sale. Because Arthur and his family had known the car for some time being neighbours, for the next 30 years he owned the ute, they always just referred to it as “Jimmys ute”. The ute was brought out each year to help with the summer’s harvest. The current owner purchased the car in June of 2020 and proceeded to put the car through a three and a half year, nut and bolt rotisserie restoration which has just been completed.

Starting with the body, it was stripped down completely before being placed on a rotisserie. Apart from being covered in red dust, the ute was in pretty good shape from spending its whole life in a dry country environment. Some minor repairs were undertaken to fix any bumps it suffered while being used as a work horse. The ute was then professionally repainted inside and out in its original colour of Honey Beige.  The chrome bumpers were sent to Gold Coast electroplating for new chrome while the diecast items were sent to A Class Metal Finishers. Some cool accessories include the windscreen visor and new tonneau cover over the back. The look outside is completed with a set of new black 13” steel wheels with new tyres and white wall inserts.

The same level of quality extends to the inside of the ute which has been fully retrimmed back to original. The floor has a new reproduction rubber mat while the seats and door trims have been put back to factory in the original Floral Green and Madison Grey vinyl. The original style head liner up top has been refinished and the original steering wheel remains in place with factory Holden Emblem and Southern Cross horn button.  The gauges and switches on the dash all present like new and the rubbers have all been replaced. In the back of the tub, the floor has all new timber panels while the sides have been coated in a colour matched textured coating.

Under the bonnet is the new fully rebuilt but matching number 138ci six cylinder Holden Grey motor. The engine bay is extremely well present in a factory style with original style generator still present. The engine is paired to the factory three speed manual column shifted transmission. The factory diff is still in place and was also rebuilt. Both the master and slave cylinders for the clutch and brakes have been replaced with new items and there are new steel hydraulic lines used throughout.

These early Holden utes are iconic Aussie classic cars and have continued to be sought after by collectors in recent years. This is one of the nicest examples you will find having just completed a full restoration. The sale comes complete with the original log books and owners manual.
