1962 Chevrolet Biscayne Wagon

HIGHLIGHTS: – Full ground up custom rebuild – Rare Biscayne Wagon – 350ci Chevy V8 engine – Four speed automatic transmission – Nine inch diff with 3.9 gears – Air conditioning – Power steering – Power disc brake front – 18/20” Coy wheel combo

This 1962 Chevy Biscayne wagon has been through a full nut and bolt restoration with some tasteful upgrades. Back in 1996, the original owner decided to pull the whole wagon apart for a rebuild. The entire body of the car was soda blasted with any rust attended to. With the body sorted, the wagon was painted in 1997 using a custom Dupont colour called Crystallin frost blue with a little gold pearl in it. Although the car hasn’t been repainted since then, it presents extremely well all round and hasn’t lost any lustre over the years.  The chrome work and trim on the outside of the car was refinished or replaced at the same time. All of the glass in the car has been replaced with new smoked glass all round. To complete the look on the outside the car is slammed down low over a set of chrome Coy wheels measuring 18” up front and 20” in the rear.

The interior was completely refinished to match the exterior. The floor is wrapped with 11.5 m of Rolls Royce, pure wool carpet right throughout the entire wagon. The front and rear bench seats along with the door trims have been refinished back to factory. Front and centre there is a colour coded Budnik steering wheel with a host of aftermarket gauges neatly fitted into the SS style dash. There is an aftermarket stereo system with amp under the front seat to supply tunes while cruising and creature comforts include power steering, power brakes and air conditioning!

Lift the bonnet and you will find a very neatly presented engine bay with body-coloured inner guards, engine block and various bolt on components. Siting front and centre is a 350ci Chevy V8 engine built using a Camaro 4-bolt main bottom end and upgraded with an Edelbrock Performer RPM manifold and Edelbrock carburettor with electric choke. The engine is paired to a TH-200-4R four speed automatic with shift kit and 0.65 final overdrive ratio which was rebuilt in 2020. Power is fed to the rear wheels through a Ford 9” differential with Richmond 3.9 gears and Moser axel. The brakes have been upgraded to power assisted four piston disc brakes up front leaning on 330ml rotors with drum brakes retained on the rear.

The current owner likes things to handle and being a large wagon went about adjusting the suspension to suit. The car sits on lowered springs with custom Bilstein shock absorbers made for the weight of the car. The owner tells us it drives very smooth very little body roll unlike a standard wagon. A custom 2 ¼ ” exhaust system was also installed for a nice rumble down the road.

It would be extremely difficult to find a better example of a 60s American Chevy wagon. The car has a cool look, it features some great creature comforts and has a host of driveability upgrades.
