This 1957 Ford F100 pickup has been completely rebuilt and modified in a tasteful and understated manner. While it is common to see 53-56 Ford F100’s built and customised, the next generation of Ford trucks like this 57 model seem to fly under the radar. This truck was purchased out of Oregon in the USA and already had a lot going for it. It had been converted to a 2008 Crown Victoria Front end, coil over and four link rear end, 9” diff, rebuilt engine and transmission. While a lot of the hard work was already done, the truck wore red patina paint work and the work underneath wasn’t translated to the finish of the overall truck, so the owner took it off the road and spent two years going through and redoing it all to his satisfaction.

The unique colour of the truck was chosen based on a friend’s 32 Ford Highboy hot rod which was finished in a similar hue. It’s a custom mix in an Olive green and, when paired with Mini Cooper “pepper white” makes for a great contrast on the exterior. Prior to the car being painted, countless hours were spent perfecting and subtly tweaking the body of the truck. One of the tweaks you might notice is the chrome grill bar which is usually one piece with the headlight surrounds which have now been separated and moulded into the body of the car. The front bumper is a Chevy C10 item that has been tucked and narrowed with licence plate recess added. The radiator support under the bonnet was fitted with hotrod style flutes for a cool look. The bed and tail gate were extensively panel beaten to remove the dents from years of use, the bed floor was completely cut out and the inner fenders all made new. The inside of the bed was painted as nicely as the rest of the body and the floor of the bed fitted with teak boards separated by stainless slide strips. In the centre of the bed is a cool Jaguar fuel cap that feeds fuel down to the Mustang fuel tank below.

The interior is a work of art, traditionally styled and a cool mix of beige and cream leather with green and white houndstooth inserts. The seats themselves are buckets from a 1963 Mercedes Benz which are separated by a ’64 Falcon Futura centre console. There is a tilt column, Mercury under dash air conditioning unit and a repro 57 Chevy steering wheel. The custom touches in such a small cabin are incredible, some of the things easily overlooked is the teak surfboard shaped rear view mirror, the houndstooth headliner and matching covered arm rests with integrated ash trays and the period bass drum kick pedal repurposed as the accelerator pedal.

Under the bonnet is a rebuilt 390ci FE V8 engine upgraded with a mild Comp cam, worked heads, a Holley 650 double pumper 4 barrel carburettor and an Edelbrock intake manifold. The engine bay is understated and instead of a bunch of aftermarket bling, the original Mercury tinware was painted in Ford Blue for a factory style look. The engine is paired to a rebuilt Ford C6 Automatic transmission. The wheel choice for such a unique truck was always going to be difficult but it was decided on a set of Coy C33 Alloy Smoothies measuring 18” up front and 20” in the rear. The wheels were stripped back, polished and partially repainted to give them a one off custom look.

The truck was finished and debuted at the QLD Hotrod show in 2019. Since then the truck was awarded top 10 at the Back to Brunswick Rod Run and Top 3 American award at Yamba Rod Run.
