1940 FORD 3 WINDOW STREET ROD

This 1940 Ford 3 window coupe has been completely built from the ground up as a radical custom street rod. The basis of the car was supplied by OZE Rod shop in Canada as is a fiberglass recreation of a heavily modified 1940 Ford 3 window coupe on a full custom chassis. The car was sent out to Strong Tourque Customs in Australia as a body and chassis package where it was modified and engineered to meet Australian specifications and signed off by renowned engineer, Tim Bartrop.

The chassis of the car is a reproduction Ford unit with custom tubular bracing throughout. The front end is an independent double A-Arm setup while the rear end uses a triangulated four link with air bags all round. The airbag suspension is controlled by an Air ride Technologies, Level Pro system with overhead mounted controller. A BMW steering rack provides rack and pinion power steering. Pulling it up is a set of four wheel disc brakes with PBR double diaphragm booster and AU master cylinder.

Under the bonnet lives a Lexus sourced 1UZ all alloy, quad cam V8 engine. Sitting proud on top of the engine is an intake manifold featuring 8 individual throttle bodies which is always a super cool look on a fuel injected car. The front engine pulley kit is all custom and the intake and rocker covers are all polished with speed flow fitting used throughout. The engine is pairs to a matching A341E three speed plus overdrive automatic transmission that has been manualised. Power is fed to the rear wheels through a custom tail shaft into a nine inch diff.

The body of the car is a fiberglass reproduction and a radical interpretation of a 40 Ford 3 window coupe by the boys at OZE Rod shop. The roof line is heavily chopped and the front end is swept down for a more aerodynamic look. The body is shaved smooth of any handles and badges with both manual and remote door poppers and remote opening and closing trunk. The doors themselves have been converted to suicide doors to continue the custom theme. The entire body has been painted in a slick two tone paint job with a heavy fleck metallic black over a custom metallic green with custom airbrushed pattern down the sides. The grille is a billet OZE rod shop item and the stance of the car is awesome thanks to the slammed ride height provided by the airbag suspension. The final touch is the set of staggered Intro Billet custom polished wheels measuring 17” up front and 20” in the rear.

Pop open the suicide doors and you will enter a full custom leather interior. The dash is custom painted to match the exterior with a full set of Dolphin gauges. Front and centre is a billet steering wheel mounted on a chrome tilt column. The bucket seats are moulded in with a custom centre console. An overhead console houses a bank of switches and push button starter as well as the Ridetech air suspension controller. Creature comforts include air conditioning, power windows, remote door poppers and remote trunk.

The rod has been finished since 2013 and has been plated for LH9 hot rod registration in Queensland. Its not often radical custom street rods like this come up for sale so be sure to register and bid if you want to park this one in your garage.
