1932 FORD HIGH BOY ROADSTER

This 1932 Ford Roadster has been completely custom built from the ground up using all new parts. The build took place over a 3 year period being completed in September of 2010. A 32 reproduction chassis was sourced from Limeworks as the base of the build. The front end is a Rod Tech item with aluminium super bell drop axle with transverse leaf spring. The rear end is a traditional style transverse leaf with ladder bars.
The body is a new all steel item sourced from Brookville in the USA. The body itself hasn’t been extensively modified, instead opting for a more traditional look. The external door handles are deleted but the exposed door hinges, boot handle and split folding bonnet all remain. The bonnet sides have been fluted with blisters added for extra exhaust clearance. The entire body and chassis was painted in Metallic Copper in 2010 by Chris Weir. The headlights are genuine Guide’s and mounted nice and low and the taillights are Pontiac items. The fenders are ditched for a set of cycle guards for that classic fender less Hiboy look. The windscreen is an all new ‘chopped’ style with new removable convertible top with Quicktop fixed frame and trimmed in German cloth with framed rear window. The external look is completed with a set of 16” steel wheels with Coker Radial tyres.
Inside the car has been custom trimmed in cream German fine grain leather by Tony Cairns. There is a bench seat up front with custom door trims and pockets in the doors. The dash features Stuart Warner gauges with all of the switches shaved and relocated to underneath. The steering wheel is a period reproduction 1940 Ford item. The floors feature period style German weave carpets for that classy finish and the boot is neatly panelled out and trimmed.
Under the bonnet is a Smeding 383ci Chevy V8 crate engine. The engine features 4 bolt mains, hydraulic roller camshaft, Dart heads, Performer manifold and Holley 650cfm Carb. The engine is neatly detailed being painted to match the exterior of the car with chrome air cleaner cover and Offenhauser finned rocker covers. The engine is paired to a T5 manual transmission with NPC Performance clutch and pressure plate as well as a Lakewood scatter shield. Temps are kept under control thanks to a Wallker radiator with electric thermos fan. Exhaust gasses are expelled through a jet hot coated exhaust system. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a Currie 9” diff with 3.7 gears. Braking is provided by discs up front and drums in the rear with an under floor mounted booster and master cylinder. The underside of the car is neatly painted and detailed to match the outside.
The car was completed in 2010 for the Valla beach rod run where it was awarded top 10. The rod is plated to LH9 for hot rod registration in QLD and has travelled approximately 15,000 kms since completion
