This 1923 Ford C-Cab hot rod fire truck has been through a full ground up custom build. The car was constructed over 2 year beginning in 2019 and finished in 2020. Starting with a custom-built chassis, the front end features an all new four link setup with I-beam with transverse leaf spring while the rear utilises a four link with coil-overs all purchased from Australian Hot Rod Components in 2020. The suspension has multiple mount points and is adjustable in ride height so you can dial in the handling the way you want it. Steering is provided by a Suzuki Sierra steering box with push/pull configuration. The steering column is all new as are the universals and tie rods. The steering position is a more conventional angled set up rather than the upright style you often see in other Model T cars. Practically all the components in the braking / steering / suspension systems are new at time of construction.

Powering the rod, and on display in the open engine bay is a 350ci Chevy V8 with 4 bolt mains. The engine was sourced second hand but was given a once over and compression checked for health before being put into the rod. The accessories on the engine are all either chrome or polished to make the open engine bay really stand out. There is a twin four-barrel tunnel ram fitted with dual 450cfm Quick Fuel Holley carbs from Hume Performance. Hanging off the engine is a new chrome water pump, chrome 55-amp alternator and Gilmer belt drive setup. Spark is provided by an electronic dizzy. The engine is kept cool with a new aluminium radiator and auto switching 14” thermos fan. The engine is paired to a two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission with Lokar shifter. The transmission and torque converter were professionally rebuilt in December of 2021. Power is fed to the rear wheels through a Ford 8 3/4“ differential. Stopping power is provided by 11” discs on the front with all new Ford 10” drums in the rear. The rod is given it token V8 rumble thanks to a pair of chrome sprint headers with dummy truck side pipes and internal mufflers flowing into a stainless exhaust which extends to the rear to meet Qld legal requirement.

The body of the C-Cab is a one-off custom fabricated item that started off using a 1923 T-Bucket cowl and doors. From here the whole C-Cab rear end was hand fabricated using steel by Hot Rod supply Co at Willowbank in QLD. The cab utilised 2 HQ holden Wagon roof skins for the side profiles and a 2wd Hilux roof for the main cab roof with the remainder fabricated from steel plate. Inspiration was drawn from several period C-Cab hot rods in the USA to ensure it had the correct “Cartoon like” look. Once complete the body and the chassis were all coated in ‘Fire Engine Red’ paintwork and fitted out as a Fire Engine Replica with side mounted ladders, fire engine signage on door and body along with a genuine mid 40’s fire siren and other fire related accessories. Whilst being T-Bucket based, the unique nature of this C Cab makes it suitable for larger people with a seating position easily able to accommodate a driver over 6 foot. The rear locking opening door allows for easy access into the back and makes it possible to carry a decent load. The look externally is completed with a set of 14×6” and 15×8” Mehelich Mag wheels and tri-bar spinner caps from a 72 Pontiac LeMans.

Inside the rod received a full custom interior in red and black marine vinyl by Amax Upholstery Browns Plain in early 2021. The seat belts, steering wheel and headliner all colour matched to reflect the Fire Engine theme. The back is neatly panelled out on the sides with carpet on the floor. The car has been plated to LH10 and has previously been on full QLD registration.
