1969 Chevy Corvette 427 tri-power

HIGHTLIGHTS: – Genuine 400hp 427 tri power car – Matching numbers 427ci V8 – Original Tri-power carb setup – Four-speed manual transmission – Upgraded suspension – Restored in factory Crimson red with black interior

The 1969 Chevy Corvette was available with three “big-block” engine choices including the “Tri-Power” RPO L68 427ci V8 developing 400 rated horsepower and 460 pounds-feet of tire-melting torque. Despite such massive output, the L68 Corvette was easy to drive and live with thanks to a maintenance-free hydraulic valvetrain. Costing just $326 over the Corvette’s base price, the L68 option was a fantastic high-performance bargain, with just 2,072 produced out of a total 38,762 Corvettes built for ‘69. Today, original L68 427/400 Corvettes continue to offer outstanding performance with real-world drivability and relative rarity.

This example is a Factory L68 427ci Tri power coupe finished in Crimson Red with black interior. The car was imported into Australia by a collector early last year. The paintwork on the car was ok but was given a freshen up once it arrived in Australia, being reshot in its original colour. The chrome bumpers have been refinished or replaced. The factory vented hood will show guys in the know that there is no small block under there. The factory look is completed with a set of 15” rally wheels.

Inside the car is neatly trimmed to factory look in black vinyl. The seat covers appear to have been replaced and the power windows are a nice option. There is a Retrosounds style Bluetooth stereo mounted in the dash. Like all of these coupes, the roof is a removable targa top but in this model the rear window is also removable.

Under the bonnet is the matching number 427ci, 400hp V8 engine with tri power carb setup. The engine is paired to a four speed manual transmission. There has been a few mechanical upgrades including coil over suspension hidden under the front as well as new composite spring and shocks in the rear. The brakes are power assisted discs on all four corners.

The car comes to us from a collector and while it does have import approval it should be noted that it hasn’t been previously registered in Australia. These early big block Corvettes don’t become available very often and this is a fantastic opportunity to pick up a nice one.
