This 1977 Holden Torana LX SS hatch has been completely rebuilt and tastefully modified. The car began life in GMH’s Dandenong factory in Victoria as a genuine SS Hatchback running an (L32) 253ci V8 and (M40) Trimatic transmission finished in (15949) Absynth Yellow with (18X) Black Herringbone interior.
Starting with the body, the car was stripped down to bare metal and place on a rotisserie. We are told the body was extremely solid from the start so very few rust repairs were required. The body of the SS remains unflared as it would have been from the factory. The entire body was professionally repainted in a Pearl Yellow which is a subtle modern interpretation of its original colour. The factory style SS black outs were reapplied. The car sits slightly lower than factory over a set of 15” Weld RT-S 71 wheels.
Inside the car has been completely retrimmed back to factory in Black with Herringbone insert. The carpets have been replaced with new sil plates. The seats have been recovered front and rear and the door trims refinished. The correct SS dash and wheel remain in place with centre console housing the manual shifter. If you open the hatch you will find it neatly finished with new carpets on the floor.
Under the bonnet is a rebuilt and upgraded 308ci V8 engine sitting in a neatly detailed engine bay. The engine has been warmed up with mild cam, Stripmaster intake, Holley Carb and MSD ignition system. The engine is paired to a five speed manual transmission sourced from a turbo Supra. Power is fed to the rear wheels through a Borg Warner differential with 28 spline axles and LSD centre. The cooling system has been upgraded to a now aluminium radiator with twin thermo fans. The front suspension remains factory while the rear has been upgraded with adjustable coil overs. The brakes are power assisted and feature discs on all four corners with slotted rotors up front.
The sale includes the original owners manual with vehicle identifiers and original owners details. These little Torana SS Hatches are iconic Aussie Muscle cars and neat, unflared genuine V8 SS Hatches are certainly thin on the ground.
