This 1972 Holden HQ Monaro has been fully rebuilt from the ground up into a one off custom show car. The car was built in 2014 by a well-known and respected HQ collector/enthusiast.

The car started life as a V8 LS coupe and was chosen for the build for its rust free body which still had its original floors. It was the perfect starting point to build a show quality car from. The body work on this car is show standard and has been completely refinished in Hugger Orange. The car received all the GTS appointments with fluted guards and badging. The chrome and stainless trim were all refinished during the build. The look outside is completed with a set of staggered 18” Intro Billet wheels.

Inside the car received a full custom retrim in cream leather by Annvid Upholstery in Capalaba, QLD. The trim features loads of billet highlights and a mix of leather and suede. Front and centre is a billet dash facia housing a set of Dakota digital gauges behind the custom GTS style steering wheel with billet GTS horn button. There is a big custom stereo system throughout the car with the boot decked out to hide the dual batteries and much of the stereo system componentry. The glass and rubbers were all replaced with new items during the build. For comfort the car has been fitted with aftermarket air conditioning and power steering.

Pop the bonnet and you will find a neatly detailed engine bay that’s smoothed and painted housing a tough built 468ci Chevy Big Block stroker V8. The engine build features Edelbrock oval port heads, JE Pistons, 41 40 crank. While its tough, it was built to be a streetable car and on the dyno and made an effortless 512hp at the fly wheel. The engine is paired to a Turbo 400 automatic transmission with a 3000 rpm stall and B&M shifter. Feeding power to the rear wheels is a 9 inch diff with TrueTrac centre.

The engine bay is highly detailed with the bonnet de-seamed underneath, billet bonnet hinges and a serpentine front runner kit to dress up the power steering and air conditioning pumps. There is a custom polished alloy radiator and all accessories are finished in either chrome or billet to create that dramatic engine bay when the bonnet is up and on show. Steering has been upgraded to an alloy Retro steering rack with custom stainless bracketry. Braking is provided by power assisted four-wheel discs with slotted rotors up front. Exhaust gasses are expelled through a custom made mandrel bent and ceramic coated exhaust system. The underside of the car is well detailed with the underside of the floors painted in body colour and the chassis and suspension components painted a contrasting silver.

Upon completion the car was awarded top 10 at the Brisbane Hot Rod show in 2017 and has only travelled approximately 3,500 kms. This is a fantastic example of a show quality HQ Monaro Coupe with upgrades everywhere you look and jamb packed full of features.
