This 1971 Holden HQ Monaro coupe has been through a full rotisserie rebuild into a neat custom Aussie muscle car. HQ Coupes are always extremely popular and this one has some awesome upgrades and is finished in a desirable colour combination. The car was purchased by the current owner back in 2016 and has been built over the last eight years only being completed earlier this year.

Starting with the body, the car was completely stripped down and placed on a rotisserie. From there, all rust was removed and plated with a complete new floor seamlessly grafted in, new guards, nose cone, radiator support, inner and outer plenum and door skins. The body remained almost entirely factory with the exception of the addition of GTS style fluted guards and mini tubs to the chassis rail in the rear. With the body work completed, the car was professionally repainted in PPG Aquamarine metallic with Black GTS stripes. The bumpers and stainless trim were refinished or replaced and GTS badges fitted. Completing the look on the outside is a set of 20” Simmons wheels with black centres and polished lips.

Inside the car was treated to a complete retrims in a factory GTS style in black with Houndstooth inserts. The dash features complete and original GTS gauges which were fully rebuilt. A B&M ratchet shifter has been neatly adapted to the original console. Keeping things comfortable inside is a full vintage air system for heating and air conditioning. The original radio was converted to Bluetooth with quality speakers installed into the factory positions.

Open the bonnet and you will find a neatly detailed engine bay with colour matched inner guards and engine dressed in black. Sitting in the middle is a brand new 350 Chevy engine topped with Weiand Street Warrior intake and Edelbrock electric choke carburettor. The engine is paired to a rebuilt, TH400 automatic transmission with shift kit. Power is fed to the rear wheels through a nine inch diff with 3.25 gears, Tru-track centre and billet axles. Keeping things cool is a new aluminium radiator with twin thermo fans. The suspension has been completely upgraded with a Rod Shop Chrome-Molly chassis, tubular control arms and Viking double adjustable shocks front and rear. As part of the new front end, the steering has been upgraded to rack and pinion. The brakes have also been upgraded to big Wilwood discs on all four corners with new booster and master cylinder. Likewise, the fuel system received a new tank, sender and all new lines.

Since completion earlier this year, the car has travelled just over 900 kms. The car has been engineered and mod plated for Victoria. These HQ Coupes are extremely popular Aussie muscle cars and this example has been through an extensive rebuild with a host of tasteful upgrades.
