This 1968 Chevy Camaro has been through a full ground up build into a tough street machine. First generation Camaro’s like this are iconic American Muscle cars and this example has been built to an incredibly high level. The build was completed in 2005 when it was fully engineered and registered in NSW. Since then, the car was sold to QLD and registered and mod plated here being used sparingly by the owner.

The body of the car has been completely refinished to a high standard in Metallic Gun Metal Grey paintwork. The side markers have been shaved and the rear tail lights are LED units. The front and rear bumpers have been rechromed and there is an Eddie Motorsport RS Billet fuel cap on the back. Up front, there is a RS hide away headlight front end with electric headlight door motor conversion. The blower and injector hat stick up through the bonnet which has a neat little reserve cowl to soften the look. The rear of the car has been mini tubbed and there is a shaved flat fire wall up front. The car squats down nice and low over a set of Weld Pro Series wheels with 15” bead locks in the rear wrapped in Mickey Thompson Sportsman 28×12.5 tyres and 17” front runners wrapped in 26×6” Outlaw radials.

Inside the car has been completely retrimmed with some nice upgrades. The floors have been covered with insulation and new carpets. A factory style trim kit used on the seats front and rear as well as new door cards. The dash has been refinished and retrofitted with Classic Instruments gauges in the original style cluster. There is also a duo of Autometer gauges mounted under the dash and a Motec shift light front and centre. The steering column is an Ididit chrome item with tilt adjustment and holds a billet steering wheel with a matching set of billet pedals on the floor. A custom centre console splits the front bucket seats houses the B&M ratchet shifter as well as a volts gauge and 12 volt socket. For safety lap sash belts have been added up front and the outer two rear seats with a lap belt in the middle. The car is fitted with a ‘Vintage Air’ air conditioning system with neatly integrated controls on the dash. The stereo is all high quality with a vintage look but modern functioning head unit in the dash, along with Focal 6” splits up front, Focal 6x9s in the rear shelf and two Alpine Subs and Amplifiers neatly mounted in the boot. The boot also houses a neatly painted 120L custom fuel cell and the relocated Optima battery.

The Camaro is powered by a Blown and injected 540ci Big Block V8. The engine was built up using a Dart Block with AFR Aluminium heads and topped with a Mooneyham 8/71 blower running 5psi of boost fed by a Joe Blo billet injector hat. The engine package is controlled by a Motec M84 ECU and runs on E85. The cooling system has been upgraded with an big polished radiator, custom shroud with twin thermos, fabricated hoses and electric water pump. The engine bay is extremely well presented with shaved firewall, billet braces, billet hinges, braided lines and hidden wiring.

The engine is paired to a reverse pattern Turbo 400 Automatic transmission built by Protrans. Power is fed to the rear wheels through a strengthened nine inch diff. The suspension has been upgraded with a Heidts Pro G Subframe up front including tubular A arms, adjustable coil overs and rack and pinion steering. The rear end is a Heidts four link with Panhard bar and adjustable coil overs. The car is strengthened using a set of subframe connectors. The brakes have been upgraded to a Hydroboost setup with Willwood master cylinder and Willwood discs brakes all round including 6 piston callipers up front and four piston callipers in the rear.

Since completion, the car has been fully engineered for NSW as well as mod plated for QLD. It would take an enormous amount of time and money to build a car to this level. This is a rare opportunity to buy one of the most seriously built, first generation Camaro’s in the country.
