This 1965 Ford Mustang has been through an extensive ground up, nut and bolt restoration into a Shelby GT350 replica. The car was purchased by the current owner in 2014. It was a good base to start with, not a rusty car, but he had plans for something much better so pulled the whole car down to start again.
Once the car was stripped down, the body was taken to Joscar to go back to bare metal, receive the necessary repairs and a full repaint. A few old patches were found in the floors so instead of mucking around, an entire new floor pan was welded in. Likewise, the rear quarters were replaced with NOS parts. With the repairs complete, the car was completely repainted in Sapphire Blue metallic with white Shelby stripes. The outside of the car also received the Shelby specific items like plexiglass quarter windows, side scoops, and Shelby bonnet with scoop and bonnet pins. The look externally is completed with a set of 15” Shelby Cragar wheels with white lettered tyres.
Inside the car was fully restored back to factory in black. The dash features restored gauges with the Shelby style tacho mounted up top. The stereo looks like an original but is actually a Retrosounds unit with neatly integrated speakers. The seatbelts are thick aircraft style items you would get in a Shelby. For driving comfort, the car is fitted with power steering and a collapsible steering column for safety.
Pop the bonnet and you will see an extremely well-presented factory style engine bay, but there is a lot more going on than it initially appears. The engine is a 331ci Windsor V8 stroker built by Martin Engines in 2015. The engine features a Dart block and Comp Cams Hydraulic roller cam. Bolted to the side of it is a period correct, Paxton Supercharger. The engine is paired to a C4 automatic transmission built by Al’s Race Glides in 2015. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a 8” diff with LSD and 3.55 gears. The suspension is rebuilt using Shelby dropped front springs and 1” lowered leaf springs in the rear. Brakes again are factory style items with discs up front and drums in the rear along with power booster and dual master cylinder. The underside of the car is as well presented in the top, finished in the original style red oxide paintwork.
This is not your average fastback Mustang, the car has been through an extensive and highly detailed restoration. To complete the Shelby clone looks, the car is fitted with a reproduction Shelby style build plate under the bonnet and reproduction K code build plate in the drivers door. All of the fun of the real thing at a fraction of the price.
