This 1964 Holden EH Premier wagon has been fully restored with some tasteful upgrades. The car was purchased by the current owner in late 2014. It had been sitting in shed in Mt Tambourine for around 15-20 years at the time. It wore a 90s blue paint job and a set of mag wheels. Since purchasing the car, the owner has been on a mission to completely restore the car to the highest possible standard resulting in what you see here today.

The current owner is a qualified panel beater and spray painter so began tearing into the project himself. Unfortunately spare time was hard to come by so the car was sent over to Paint The Town in Releigh, NSW. A good friend of his, another experienced panel painter with 35+ years experience, stripped all body panels back to metal including in and out, under dash, under roof, gutters, under floor, under wheel arches and complete engine bay. The car received a new beaver panel and lower quarter panels but there were no major rust repairs required. With repairs complete, the entire car was epoxy primed. The car was then fully repainted in its factory colour combo of Buller Grey with Fowlers Ivory roof.  The car received all new glass and all new rubbers. All of the chrome and stainless trim was refinished or replaced with NOS parts sourced and used where possible. The EH sits on stock wheels from a HR that have been powder coated in white, with premier dress rims and hubcaps.

Open the door and you find a completely retrimmed interior with all of the top of the line Premier luxuries completed in 2020. The trim colour has been changed from Melville grey to a really cool distressed Tan vinyl which is similar to the factory Somoan Tan colour. The front bucket seats, rear bench, console, door trims and boot areas have all been treated to the Tan colour by J&A Trimming. The floors received new carpets and there is a manual floor shifter poking up from the centre console. The dash is fitted with a very rare set of original export model gauges with speed in kph rather than miles and a very rare pull-out picnic radio.

Pop the bonnet and you will find a completely rebuilt 179ci 6 cyl engine. The engine has been rebuilt with a mild cam, Genuine Holden X2 twin carb set up, mild headwork and X2 headers. The engine is still being run in having only done approximately 400kms. Rather than the factory three on the tree, the engine is paired to an M20, four-speed, floor shifted manual transmission. The trans recently received a new rear seal and gasket service with shifter rebuilt and re-lubed. Power is fed to the rear wheels through the standard differential. The suspension has been updated with a HR front end including new Koni shocks and 2” lowered King Springs. The rear suspension is standard leaf springs with new Monroe shocks. The brakes have been upgraded with all new HR disc brakes and pads, with rebuilt calipers up front. The rear’s are standard drums with rebuilt wheel cylinders, shoes and drums machined. There is also a new master cylinder and new lines.

This would have to be one of the best restored EH Premier wagons currently available in the country. Upon completion, the car was taken to the EH 60th Anniversary show and shine where it was crowned best in show.
