1960 Ford Thunderbird Coupe

1960 was the last year for the second generation of the Ford Thunderbird and was marketed as a personal luxury car by the Ford brand. This example was built at Ford’s plant in Wixom, Michigan, rolling off the production line on the 11th of May, 1960. The car remained with the original owner’s family from new until 2004 when it was purchased by a Gentleman in Minnesota. He then sold the car in 2008, and the car was exported to New Zealand. The car was a survivor car at this stage with low mileage and in good condition. The car was then treated to a restoration in New Zealand where the car was repainted in its original colour scheme of Kingston Blue with a Corinthian White roof. The interior was also recovered and chrome work refinished. A Continental kit was added to the rear of the car and it sits on a set of 17” Boyd Coddington wheels to give the car a unique look.

The owner of the car made the move across to Australia in 2015 and decided to bring the car with him. The car retains its original 352ci V8 which was reconditioned approximately 6,000 miles ago. The heads were done in 2019 and valves and guides replaced with hardened valve seats for modern unleaded fuel. The engine retains its factory automatic choke on the reconditioned carburettor. The engine is paired to the factory Cruise-O-Matic four speed automatic transmission. The car is factory optioned with Swift Sure power brakes and Master Guide power steering. Keeping things cool on the inside with air conditioning which functions correctly through the factory vents. Under the bonnet is all neat and tidy to an original look as is the trunk with a factory style patterned liner.

The car comes with a large folder documenting the history of the vehicle as well as a number of pictures and receipts collected over the years. There is also the original import approval and US title for the car. An opportunity to own a nicely restored example of a “Squarebird” that would make a great cruiser for the whole family.
