1957 Buick Century Pillarless Sedan

This 1957 Buick Century pillarless sedan is certainly a cool custom cruiser. We are told by the current owner that the car is believed to be the first 1957 Buick to be brought into Australia and that it was originally used as a consulate car in Melbourne. Apparently the car wasn’t converted to right hand drive while it was in use as a consulate vehicle in the 50’s however it did receive a conversion once it was sold to the second owner. We are told that the car passed through a few different owners before being pulled apart and customised into what you see here today. We are told this is one of the first cars to be put on air suspension in Australia when it was first built, certainly a cool history.
Although an older restoration, the car still presents well overall today only showing minor signs of age and wear. The body wears a two-tone metallic blue over cream paint work which looks great with all of the chrome these cars have on them. The rear door handles have been shaved which would almost fool people into thinking the car is a two door with the pillarless side glass. The car is fitted with a set of 20” Billet specialties wheels that were imported from the US. The air suspension is manually operated from manual valve switches under the dash.
The interior has been redone in white and contrasts the outside colours well. There is a billet steering wheel and polished tilt column front and centre. The big bench seats front and rear allow enough seating for six passengers. For comfort, there is a ‘Vintage Air’ air conditioning system installed with controls neatly mounted on the lower part of the dash.
The car runs its original 364ci Nail head V8 which has been upgraded with a thumper cam. The engine is paired to a Turbo 400 automatic transmission and power is fed to the rear wheels via a 9” diff. A cool custom cruiser for someone to get out and enjoy.
