This 1956 Chevy Bel Air sport coupe has been through a ground up build into a one-off custom restomod. This custom Chevy is owned by Aussie Motorsport royalty, 2 time Dakar Rally champion, and good friend, Toby Price. Toby is a massive car guy and has owned the Chevy for a number of years now. With a couple of other old school projects currently in the build, he has decided it’s time to let someone else enjoy the Bel Air and asked us to put it to auction. We asked Toby if he could throw in something special for the winning bidder and being the champion that he is, he obliged and has provided us with a signed Team Red Bull KTM Jersey for the auction winner. A cool bonus on top of an awesome car.

The car is one of the most desirable body styles available in 1956 being a factory V8, Belair in a pillarless sports coupe. The build began with the body being removed from the chassis and stripped back before receiving any necessary repairs. Once completed, the body was professionally repainted in a deep metallic blue. Instead of opting for the typical two tone you see on these tri-fives, the decision was made to keep the car one solid colour for a more modern look. The chrome and stainless trim on the outside of the car was all refinished or replaced and presents to a high standard. The look externally is completed with a set of 20” REV Rambler wheels finished in chrome.

Open the door and you will find a full custom interior in black thanks to TMI Products in the US. The floor has all new carpets with a Lokar automatic shifter poking up from the floor. Front and centre is a Forever Sharp steering wheel mounted on a chrome tilt column. Engine vital signs are monitored through a full Dakota Digital gauge setup in the original style cluster. The front and rear seats as well as the door cards and boot panels are all custom items from TMI. The seats are bolstered and give a great sporty feel. To keep things cool inside the car is fitted with an aftermarket air conditioning system.

Lift the bonnet and you will see things have gotten serious. Gone is the old oily carby V8 and replaced with a late model, 6.2L LS3 fuel injected Chevy V8. This setup provides a huge upgrade in both performance and reliability. The engine is paired to a Turbo 350 automatic transmission with high stall converter. The steering has been upgraded to power steering with a CPP steering box. The brakes have been upgraded to power assisted discs on all four corners with Wilwood dual master cylinder. The front suspension has been upgraded to tubular control arms with adjustable coil overs. The rear suspension has also been upgraded with a four link rear end and adjustable coil overs. Things are kept cool thanks to a large alloy radiator with twin thermo fan and exhaust gasses escape through a custom twin exhaust system. The engine bay is neatly presented with billet hood hinges and the underside of the car is extremely well finished with the underside of the floor gloss painted body colour and chassis components redone in black.

This would be one of the coolest Restomod Tri-five Chevys in the country and has been professionally built with loads of features. Restomods like this provide the best compromise of classic styling with modern performance and reliability. Builds like this cost big dollars to put together and don’t come up for sale very often. Be sure to register and bid if you want to see this one parked in your garage.
