This 1951 Chevy 3100 5 window pick up has been fully rebuilt from the ground up into a cool custom cruiser. 1950s American pick up trucks are one of the hottest sectors in the classic car market at the moment. If you’ve ever had anything to do with these trucks you will know they were extremely agricultural from the factory. They were intended to be work horses, horrible to drive, often beaten around and left out in paddocks. For this reason, restomod style trucks are the way to go, they combine the classic styling and feel with modern upgraded drivelines for better comfort, performance, handling and reliability.

This 1951 Chevy pick up truck is extensively upgraded. Under the bonnet now lives a GM Performance, Ram Jet 350ci fuel injected V8 engine. The engine is paired to a Turbo 400 automatic transmission and power is fed to the rear wheels through a nine inch diff. The original chassis has been upgraded with a Heidts independent front suspension setup with rack and pinion power steering. The brakes have been upgraded to power assisted discs on all four corners. Keeping things cool is a new alloy radiator with thermo fan and exhaust gasses escape through a set of block hugger headers into a custom dual exhaust.

The body of the truck is the highly desirable 5 window cab which has been fully restored with some tasteful modifications. The whole truck has been professionally repainted in a metallic Copper colour. The front end features a unique one year only grille off a 1954 model. All of the chrome and stainless trim externally has been refinished or replaced. In the back the rear bumper has been deleted with a custom roll pan. The old bolt on tail lights have been removed and flush mounted into the new roll pan. The fuel filler has been removed from the cab with a new filler door flush mounted into the rear guard. The side windows have been converted over to one piece glass for a cleaner look. The bed chains have been removed from the back with new internal stays fitted for the custom tail gate. The side steps are fitted with chrome strips. Inside the bed there is custom bead rolled sides, a custom header panel and tubs which have been coated in a colour matched rhino lining. The bed floor itself is solid Maple Wood with chrome dividing strips. Completing the look externally is a set of 17” American Racing wheels.

Open the door and you will find a fully refinished cabin. There are new carpets on the floor with billet style pedals. The bench seat and door trims have been refinished in a custom Tan colour. The fuel cell has been removed from behind the front seat to a fuel cell under the rear of the tub. The dash has a full set of Dakota Digital gauges to keep an eye on what’s happening under the hood. There is an aftermarket chrome tilt steering column holding an aftermarket wheel. Creature comforts include power windows on the one piece glass and a ‘Vintage Air’ air conditioning system. There is an aftermarket stereo system for tunes while cruising.

Since completion the truck has been mod plated for QLD and comes to us as a part of a large private collection where it has lived for the last few years. Be sure to register and bid if you want to see this pick up parked in your garage.
