This 1950 Hudson Pacemaker coupe is believed to be one of only hand fall off pacemaker coupes in Australia. The coupe is the most desirable of the Pacemaker body styles and is completely different body shape to the 4 door and the 2 door sedan. This one has been through a make over into a cool custom sled with a bunch of neat upgrades both mechanically and cosmetically.
Under the bonnet of the car lives a 262ci flat head, straight six Hudson motor, which is a bigger than the 202ci Pacemaker engine that would of been fitted from factory. The engine is fitted with the legendary 7X Hudson race cam and rebuilt twin Hudson carbs. Other upgrades include a polished Gifford 308 head with harden seats. Gasses flow freely thanks for a set of extractors and custom exhaust. The engine is paired to a new Turbo 700 automatic transmission. Power is fed to the rear wheels through a rebuilt tailshaft and diff. To help with stopping power, there is an electric power brake booster. Fuel is supplied from a rebuilt and relined fuel tank by an electric fuel pump through all new lines. The front suspension is original Hudson which has been fully rebuilt with the rear end being upgraded to a four-link setup with adjustable coil overs. The car has also been rewired with new loom.
Externally the bodywork on the car has been kept standard without any radical modification but has that natural sled like shape right out of the factory. The paintwork however is a different story thanks to a full custom repaint in Metallic Green with period custom Scallops finished in Green metal flake. The bonnet is punched full of louvers and the chrome has been refinished during the rebuild. The stance is completed with the car sitting down nice and low over a set of gold metal flake painted steel wheels with wide white wall tyres.
Inside the car is said to have been refinished in the early 90s in a funky period striped cloth trim. The original style column, steering wheel and column shifter remain in place. There are new carpets on the floor and some seatbelts added for safety. A cool feature on the inside in the under dash 45 record player. The door rubber and boot rubber were replaced during the resto.
This is the chance to own a rare classic cruiser that has been tastefully modified with a cool custom flavour.
