This 1941 Willys 3 window coupe is a ground up built custom street rod. The rod was built by Outlaw Performance in the US for a gent in California before being purchased by the current owner who imported the car here to Australia.

Starting with the body, the Willys 3 window coupe fiberglass reproduction body was purchased in a package with the chassis through Outlaw Performance in Pennsylvania. A 41 Willys coupe is a pretty awesome looking car in standard form but this one received some subtle modifications. Firstly, the door handles and boot lock have been shaved. A set of 39 Ford tear drop tail lights were used on the rear. There are small custom door mirrors and the bumpers were deleted for a clean look. The entire body has been coated in a cool period Vintage Burgundy inside and out. Smoked glass was also used all round. The car sits slammed down low on polished Weld wheels measuring 15×5” up front and meaty 15×15’s in the rear wrapped in huge 33×21.5” Mickey Thompson Sportsman tyres!

Inside the car has been treated to a full custom interior in matching Burgundy leather. Once inside there are bucket seats with custom centre console and trimmed door panels. The dash features a full set of classic style VDO gauges. There is Lokar shifter for the auto on the floor and a Lecarra steering wheel fitted to a tilt column. There is a JVC aftermarket stereo system with two Kicker speakers in the doors and two behind the front seats for some tunes while cruising. For convenience the car is fitted with power windows and air conditioning keeps things cool in the cabin. The boot is neatly fitted out to match the trim with the battery relocated there and fuel cell behind the front seats.

Under the bonnet lives a late model, fuel injected, 5.7L Chevy LT1 V8 engine sourced from a Corvette. The engine is paired to a 4L60e automatic transmission with electronic GM overdrive. Power is fed to the rear wheels through a Ford nine inch diff with Posi-trac centre. Exhaust gasses escape through a custom twin exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers that exits behind the rear wheels on either side. The chassis uses Mustang II style, coil over independent suspension with rack and power steering up front with a four-link coil over rear end. The brakes are discs up front with drums in the rear.

The car was completed in 2004 and has been driven and used carefully since with the odometer currently displaying 27,500 miles. The car is fitted with a mod plate for QLD and has previously been on QLD club registration. These 41 Willys make iconic classic street rods and this one has classic styling with modern performance, reliability and creature comforts.
