This 1975 AMC Pacer X is an extremely rare sight here in Australia. The model was made iconic through its use in the movie ‘Waynes World’. Marketed by AMC as a ‘Wide Small Car’ it was designed to have all of the comfort of a full size sedan but with the external size and convenience of a compact car. The Pacer ‘X’ package consisted of vinyl bucket seats and custom trim, sports steering wheel, a floor-mounted gear shift and front sway bar
This is a low milage example that was very well optioned from the factory and has been well looked after throughout its life. The body of the car appears to have been refinished in its original red paintwork at some stage and presents well. The chrome bumpers and stainless trim also appear to be in very good condition for a car of this age. There is an old registration sticker from Chicago in 1989 still stuck to the windscreen. There is a roof rack up top for extra luggage and the car sits over a set of styled sports steel wheels wrapped in white wall tyres.
Inside the black vinyl trim appears to be original with very little wear and tear for a car of its age. The front seats are winged buckets with a bench seat for three adults in the rear. The dashboard has a cool wrap around design and features faux wood inlay for a luxury touch. In the dash is the options 8 track stereo system and the car is factory optioned with air conditioning and power steering.
Under the bonnet is the factory 4.0 litre 6 cylinder engine paired to a three speed automatic transmission with floor shifter. Despite being a small hatch back, the Pacer is still rear wheel drive with a conventional differential. The suspension is factory with front sway bar as are the brakes with power assisted discs up front. The steering is the optional power assisted rack and pinion.
The car is currently displaying only 18,993 miles on the odometer and is believed to be a genuine low milage example. If you are looking for something no one else has, this car is certainly a rarity here and could possibly be the only one in the country. It’s a well optioned example and has been well looked after by collectors since arriving in Australia. The car is being offered at NO RESERVE and will sell to the highest bidder at the end of the auction.
