This 1953 Holden FX ute has been through a full ground up, rotisserie restoration. The 48-215 or FX as it became known was the very first production model for GM Holden and the beginning of a legacy of Aussie home-grown vehicles. With Holden exiting the market, these early car have become an important piece of Aussie motoring history and it doesn’t get more Aussie than a Holden ute.
This example was completely stripped bare and fully restored approximately 10 years ago and has been kept by collectors ever since. The paint and body work on the car has been performed to a higher standard than would ever have left the factory in the 50s. The car is restored in its original colour of Glenn Green (code 2600) with the paintwork extending to the underside of the car. Likewise, the chrome work on the car has all been refinished or replaced. The car retains its original single tail light and has never been fitted with indicators, just like they were from the factory. Finishing the look external is a set of colour matched original style steel wheels with hubcaps and white wall tyres.
Inside the car has been fully retrimmed. The dash and tops of the doors are painted to match the outside of the car. The seat and door trims have been recovered but instead of using vinyl like it would have been originally, leather was used in its place, giving it a more premium feel. The tub has been neatly painted inside with timber strips on the floor and a tonneau cover to keep things out of the weather.
Under the bonnet, the ute retains a 132.5ci inline 6 cylinder ‘Grey motor’. The engine is paired with a three speed column shifted manual transmission. The electrical system was converted over from 6 volt to 12 volt by the current owner for better reliability.
These FX utes are highly desired with collectors and this is one of the best restored examples around. This car is running at NO RESERVE and will sell to the highest bidder at the end of the auction.
