This 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Cobra Jet was the top of the tree muscle car you could order from Ford in 1969, short of stepping into a Shelby. These cars have become extremely collectible among enthusiasts and proved to be great investment grade muscle cars. This particular vehicle was imported by Greg Nott who was the president of the Mustang Owners Club of Australia. The car underwent a full restoration back to factory in the US before being imported to Australia in 2010. Mr Nott knew exactly what to look for when buying these cars and found himself a fantastic example.
The car was built in the Metuchen Ford Plant before being sold new on the 23rd of December 1968 from Universal Motor Co Inc. in Richmond, Virginia. A pretty cool Christmas present to themselves that’s for sure! The car was ordered in Ford code #3077-A, Acapulco Blue with Blackout hood treatment. The interior was Black clarion knit vinyl Mach 1 with high back bucket seats. Most importantly, the big boy, 428ci 4V CJ Ram air engine option was ticked. This is an R code car with correct shaker hood. The engine is paired to a C6 automatic transmission and 9’ diff. Other options include power front disc brakes, power steering and AM radio.
The car was fully restored to the way it left the factory in the early 2000s. Since the restoration, the rear axle ratio has been revised from the factory 3.5:1 to 3.25:1 for better cruising. The 780 cfm carb was replaced with a new 780 carb with electric choke set up. For comfort, air conditioning was added to the car using Vintage air components and an air conditioning dash pad with integrated vents. The engine is rebuilt back to factory specs. These 1969 Cobra Jet Mustangs are certainly awesome collector grade muscle cars and great examples like this don’t come along very often.
