The 1963 Corvette is one of the most iconic classic cars ever produce and is considered byAVAILABLE IN OUR MARCH AUCTION. 6th – 11th MARCH many, to be one of the most beautiful cars of all time. 1963 was the first year for the Stingray name plate on a Corvette and the first year the car was offered as a hard top coupe. The long bonnet, pop up headlights and swooping rear end were all key design features but nothing would prove to be more iconic than the split rear window which only featured for one year’s production. Only 10,594 Split window Coupes (SWC) were produced in total with many of these lost and destroyed over the years. Today, a 63 Corvette SWC is a bucket list classic car for many enthusiasts and extremely desirable among collectors.
This 1963 Corvette was delivered from the factory in Daytona Blue, a colour that can almost look black in the shade but pops with a hit of blue in the light. The original fiberglass body of the car is in very good shape and the car has been repainted professionally and to a high standard. The chrome on the outside of the car including front and rear bumpers and door handles have all been refinished. The stainless windscreen trim and faux bonnet vents that are unique to this year remain in place. The car come with two sets of wheels, the original style steel wheels with original 63 hubcaps and a full set of reproduction knock off style turbine wheels that were optional in that period.
Inside the car was finished in dark blue from the factory to match the exterior. The one year only gauges are the correct stainless cone type with correct bent needles. Likewise, the glovebox lid is the correct 63 item. The bucket seats are split by the original console with four-speed floor shifter. To make the drive pleasant, the car is fitted with power assisted steering.
Under the bonnet lives the matching numbers, 327ci V8 engine. This was the only capacity engine available for the 1963 year model. The engine bay is very original in its presentation. The engine is paired to a four-speed manual transmission which was the most popular choice for that year. The car was purchased from New York before being imported to Australia. While the body’s on these cars are all fiberglass and don’t suffer from corrosion, the chassis and suspension components underneath the car do show the typical signs of being driven on salted roads for at least a portion of its life.
These split window Corvettes are iconic American classics that are universally admired and appreciated. Rarely do these cars become available in the market and the time to buy one is when it presents itself.
