1965 RHD Ford Mustang Convertible

HIGHLIGHTS: – Right hand drive converted – Factory convertible with power top – Built 347ci V8 stroker – Built C4 automatic transmission – Air Conditioning – Disc brake front end – Two sets of wheels

This right hand drive, 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible has been extensively upgraded and tastefully modified into a tough little cruiser. The car was purchased by the current owner in 2013 through Gold Coast Muscle Cars. When he bought the car it had already been right hand drive converted and was well presented all around. An A code car from the factory, the car was running a 289ci V8 engine with auto transmission and while it looked great, it was a little underwhelming performance wise. The current owner decided to perform a big upgrade to the driveline of the car to make it a bit more fun to drive.

Under the bonnet now lives a stout little 347ci stroker V8 built by Superformance in Capalaba QLD. The engine consists of a 302 Windsor roller block, Lunati Voodoo Crank shaft, H beam rods, Keith Black flat top pistons, hydraulic roller cam, Morel hydraulic roller lifters, E-street cylinder heads, Crane roller rockers, roll master HD timing set and an Edelbrock performer intake. The engine was originally set up for a Carby but has since been changed to FITech EFI by Phantom Performance in Ipswich. The engine is paired to a new reverse pattern, C4 Automatic transmission with manualised valve bodies by Precision Automatics. The rear end is a Tru-trec with 3.5:1 gears. Keeping everything cool is a new radiator with twin thermos fans and there is a disc brake upgrade up front to stop in a hurry.

The body of the car has been professionally repainted in its original colour of Poppy Red. The front and rear bumpers have been replaced and the exhausts exit through the GT style rear valance. The convertible top is power operated and in good condition with black canvas and a black boot to cover it up when it is down. There are new 347 badges on the front guard to let others know she isn’t factory underneath. There are two sets of wheels that come with the car, a set of period 14” Magnum wheels and a set of 15” polished American Racing wheels to give the car two different looks.

The interior of the car has all been refinished in the original style black vinyl trim. There is a tacho mounted to the steering column and a trio of gauges neatly moulded into the glove box door. There is a B&M quick shifter neatly mounted in the centre console. Keeping things comfortable inside is an air conditioning system with under dash mounted vents. The stereo is a digital factory replacement with speakers neatly placed in the kick panels.
