1961 Pontiac Bonneville pillarless sedan

HIGHLIGHTS: – Top of the line Bonneville – 4 door ‘Vista’ Pillarless hard top – Factory 389ci 4V V8 engine – Automatic transmission – Power steering – Power brakes – Spats and white wall tyres

The 1961 Pontiac Bonneville was Pontiacs most luxurious and costly model available during the 60s. This example rolled off the GM factory production line in Pontiac, Michigan during the 4th week of May 1961. The Bonneville was completed in the 4 door ‘Vista’ hardtop body style which had a sleek roofline and pillarless side window openings. The car was finished in factory Coronado Red with Maroon tri tone vinyl interior. The car was imported to Australia in October 2013 and purchased by the current owner, a Pontiac Enthusiast, in December 2015.

The car has received some cosmetic maintenance over the years but has been kept looking factory without any major modifications. The paintwork has been refinished approximately 18 months ago in clear over base in the original colour with a two-tone metallic grey roof. The car sits on a set of original style steel wheels and hubcaps with white wall tyres. There is a set of optional spats over the rear wheels for a cool period look.

Inside the interior is all completely factory in presentation with the intricately detailed Original ‘Morrokide’ tri-tone vinyl trim. There are big bench seats front and rear with enough room to comfortably seat six adults. The carpets were recently replaced as were the rubbers. Creature comforts include power steering and power brakes.

Under the bonnet of the car is a 389ci 4V Pontiac V8 engine. During the current ownership the engine received a freshen up with all new seals, belts and hoses. The engine bay is neatly painted and presented in a factory style finish with correct coloured engine and factory air cleaner in place. The period correct generator is still in place. The engine is paired to the original Hydramatic automatic transmission which is column shifted. The exhaust is all new and the brakes and suspension have all been extensively gone through by the current owner.

These big body American 60s cars make for fantastic cruisers that are comfortable, have plenty of power and can fit the whole family. This is a great alternative to an Impala or Caddy for someone who wants something a little different.
