This 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt is a rare collector style modern muscle car that has been extensively upgraded into an absolute weapon. The theme for the build was to keep that iconic Bullitt styling but upgrade everything underneath in a sleeper style. Don’t under estimate this car if you pull up beside it at a set of lights, you wouldn’t expect it to be packing the best part of 950hp under the bonnet.
The Bullitt Mustang was a limited edition variant of the Mustang sold new by Ford to commemorate 50 years since the release of the film Bullitt. The cars were a retro version of the now famous 1968 Mustang fastback used by Steve McQueen in the movie. The Bullitt cars were all manual transmissions, all finished in the iconic Highland Green colour and had uniquely styled front grille, window surround trim, wheels and ‘Bullitt’ badging both inside and out. They were limited to 700 examples for Australia and all sold out within weeks of being announced.
The exterior of this car is as you would expect of a car that has only travelled 20,000 kms from new. Outside of the usual Bullitt styling, the car sits a little lower thanks to Ford Performance lowering springs. The car also now rides on 20” Shelby alloy wheels which were used to fit over the massive Brembo GT350R brake upgrade.
Inside the car again is well presented with one of the few available options on these cars, Recaro seats. The Bullitt cars all had black interior with matching dark green stitching and highlights. The steering wheel, hand brake and centre console lid have been retrimmed in Alcantara with matching green stitching. The only indication of modifications in the interior is the nGauge controller stuck to the windscreen. The car retains all of its factory features and creature comforts.
Under the bonnet is where things get exciting with East Coast Performance trusted to turn the Bullitt into an absolute monster. The 5.0L Coyote V8 was pulled from the car and sent down to the guys at Herrod Performance to be completely rebuilt with race grade components and to handle the ProCharger super charger that’s now bolted up to it. The exhaust system features Xforce headers with a full Hurricane exhaust and twin resonators. The fuel system has been upgraded to a twin pump system and the nGauge tune system allows the car to run on 98 Octane, Flex Fuel and E85. On the dyno at East Coast performance, the car made 700hp on 98 Octane and jumped up to a massive 947hp (706kw) at the rear wheels on E85.
The engine is paired to a six speed manual transmission with short shifter and new clutch. The driveline is beefed up with GT350 Performance half shafts and handling is improved with Super Pro anti-roll bars. The brakes have been upgraded to Shelby GT350R spec Brembo’s all round. Despite the massive horsepower bump, the car is very user friendly and easy to use and drive. The performance is blistering if you put your foot to the floor but you can cruise around in it normally and enjoy it like any other Mustang.
The car has only travelled 20,000 kms from new and has a full service history. The sale includes receipts for work performed to the car as well as a Bullitt limited edition car cover. This would have to be one of the highest horsepower Bullitt Mustangs anywhere in the world and with only 700 examples for Australia, this is a great modern collector Mustang with a little more punch.
