The 1998 Dodge Viper GTS is an iconic all American super car of its day. The updated, GTS version was the one that 2000’s kids had posters of hanging on their bedroom walls, and toy models on their bedroom shelf. The Viper GTS is a raw drivers Supercar, with no high tech driving aids, just a big V10 engine in the front that makes 450hp, a manual transmission and rear wheel drive. The resulting performance allowed a good driver to do the 0-60mph sprint in 4 seconds flat and the quarter mile in 12.2 sec @ 118 mph. This put the all American Viper on par performance wise with a Lamborghini Diablo GT.
The particular example was purchased by the current owner out of California after a long search in the US for the right example. The car was pulled out of a collection and has only travelled 40,000 miles from new. The body of the car is finished in the original Viper Red with White GTS stripes running over the top. The hard top GTS coupe is iconic and known for its ‘Double bubble’ roof which allowed extra head room for drivers to wear a racing helmet. The car sits on a set of updated chrome 18/19” wheels from a later model Viper.
Inside the car’s black leather interior is in very good condition. The front bucket seats present well and are a comfortable place to be. The factory gauges remain in place and there are some extra stainless surrounds and dress up covers to give it some extra pop. Creature comforts inside include power steering, power windows and air conditioning. The stereo has been updated with a Kenwood head unit, upgrades speakers, amplifier and subwoofer in the boot.
Under the bonnet of the car lives the factory 8.0L V10 engine. While the car remains relatively factory there are some minor upgrades including a lightened fly wheel. The engine is paired to the factory six speed manual transmission and power is fed to the rear wheels through the factory diff with 3.73 gear ratios. The exhaust is the factory style which exits in the centre at the rear but the rear mufflers have been deleted for a little extra growl.
The sale of the car includes a large receipt file with Californian title and previous owner history. The car has been fully complied and mod plated ready for full registration. These GTS Vipers aren’t offered for sale very often and this is a collector quality example. Be sure to register and bid if you can see yourself banging through some gears in this bad boy.
