1988 Holden HSV VL SV88 Commodore

The HSV SV88 was Holden Special Vehicles’ first production car and attempt at a luxury performance car in similar vein to the HDT Director. It was based on the 4.9-litre VL Calais but spec’d up with left over HDT internals which upgraded power levels to 182 hp and 355nm of torque. The SV88’s were all finished in Dorward Blue paintwork and also featured a minor bodykit and VL Group A 16×7” wheels painted in the body colour. Today these cars are desirable among collectors and enthusiasts but thin on the ground given there were only ever 150 examples produced.
This particular example comes to us from a local collector who purchased the car at auction back in 2021. It’s a well presented, low milage original example having only travelled 69,000 kms from new. The car was sold new by John Sivyer Holden in Marooka QLD on the 18th of July, 1988. The car wears its original colour of metallic Dorward Blue and appears as though it has been professionally repainted at some stage in its life. The factory SV88 body kit remains in place with its slat type grill and rear deck spoiler. Being based on the Calais it has the iconic pop up eyelids on the headlights. The car sits on its correct factory Group A style 16” colour matched wheels.
The interior of the car is in very good condition and appears to be all original. The interior of the SV88s are finished in HSV sports leather and velour in two tone light blue. Even the original radio appears to be in place in the dash. The factory creature comforts include power steering, power windows and air conditioning.
Under the bonnet is the original matching number 5.0L V8 engine. The engine bay is looks the part in its factory presentation. The engine is paired to the factory automatic transmission. All of the suspension and brakes are factory items that have been serviced and maintained over the years. All of the tags are in place on the car including the HSV build tag and the car comes complete with its factory log books.
This would have to be one of the nicest examples of a genuine SV88 available with genuine low kms, original log books and in its factory presentation. Be sure to register and bid if you would like to see this one as part of your collection.
