HIGHLIGHTS: – Genuine VK HDT ‘Blue Meanie’ – Build number 369 of only 500 built – HDT build sheet and authentication cert – Matching numbers 4.9L V8 engine – Four-speed manual transmission – Original Aero wheels

This 1985 HDT VK Group A Commodore is one of the infamous Peter Bock endorsed, Group A ‘Blue Meanies’ that were produced and sold in order to homologate the cars for Group A touring car racing. The car was built by HDT in early August of 1985 before being sent across the country to Kordics Holden in Manjimup, W.A for delivery to the original owner. The current owner purchased the car approximately 18 months ago through a deceased estate in South Australia.  The car is build number 369 of 500 and has travelled 159,335 kms from new.

The body of the car does appear to have been repainted at some stage in its original signature colour of Formula Blue. The car features the correct HDT factory accessories including front air dam, HDT grille and front and rear spoilers. The car is finished with SS Group A decals with Peter brock signature on both front guards, SS decal in grille and Bathurst decals on the rear quarters. The front and rear spoilers have the HDT logo embossed into them. The signature look is completed with the iconic 16” HDT Aero wheels.

The interior is believed to be original with the factory style light blue velour throughout. The front ‘Scheel’ bucket seats have big factory bolsters to let you know you’re not sitting in a base model. The steering wheel and gear knob are the correct Momo items. The original style radio remains in the dash with no obvious signs of modifications.

Under the bonnet is the matching numbers, 4.9-litre ‘A9L’ V8, rated at 263 bhp. The A9L was packed full of good gear including roller rockers, a specific cam and various modifications to the block to ensure it went the distance in endurance racing. The engine is coupled to the heavy-duty four-speed ‘M21’ manual gearbox and power is fed to the rear wheels through a limited-slip differential. The Group A cars all had upgraded suspension and braking systems.

These days the Blue Meanie has come to represent all that was great about high-performance Commodores of that era. This car comes complete with HDT authentication certificate and HDT build sheets.
